  1. You do realise that if you cycle and weave between cars, us car drivers might not see you. And to the very agressive female cyclist on the ring road cycling in the snow yesterday morning. Sorry if I offended you, feel free to take out your agression on my other wing mirror next time you pass me. Just remember, if you go around with a dangerous attitude you'll get pay back sometime. (Not from me because I'm a radio 2 listener and just drive far to calmly to get involved, or care).
  2. yes I think its what they call installation art, and there were posters making it look like an aquarium. I dont think it was ever made to last, brought back those fond memories of the hole in the wall aquarium.. Funny how time makes really cr*p things seem good!
  3. To see a mole you need a mole trap or a dog. The live underground and have no eyes so they dont have much reason to come up top. A farmer showed me one once, they look like brown bean bags.
  4. Work in S10 live in S8, 15 mins by car and free parking All buses go to city centre and then out again, not many go around the city. If I walked it would be a cross country hike, on the round walk. Or sharing roads with no footpaths with cars. The car is there for me at the end of the day, and I drive past all those waiting in the cold at the bus stop.
  5. No, interested in getting it thou - currently pay for bt put could get sky for free I gather, what's the catch?
  6. I would cut them down and plant four smaller trees. If you pick slow growing varieties, they wont affect viewing in your lifetime and you remove your guilt on your carbon footprint.
  7. Well we have had the largest hail stones here in fulwood, so just maybe they do.
  8. The government has made changes to the charges for old people, not being old enough I dont know much about it but by 2008 there should be a fairly huge network available for the crinklies, do doubt in Sheffield First bus will use this as a reason why the rest of us should be paying even more! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4867008.stm
  9. With the weather as it is, I would go to either someone with a giant ball pond , Western Park, Kelham Island. My kids always liked the national train museum at York, Royal Armouries at Leeds. The science museum in Manchester is also good with an excellent section with puzzles for all ages. If the weather improves Twycross Zoo, Sundowners, Chatsworth Park. And the ducks at bakewell are always fun
  10. I use a car because its 15-20 minutes from S8 - S10 of a morning but it would be 10 minutes and well over an hour and two buses which was a small fortune before the last price hike and first bus cancelled the service to the local school, so its cars for us. I would love trams but its a bus into town or a car drive to gleadless townend to get one, so not a lot of point. When I arrived in Sheffield, the trams were being built and bus fares were cheap, but where or where has the decent public transport gone. Its a nutty situation when its cheaper to drive to town for a family of four. And to think the french get free public transport after the third child....
  11. Have driven past your location - its been a number of different restaurants over the years, I think in Sheffield everybody likes to try something new and repeat trade is going to be something you really have to be good to get or offer a loyality discount. This section of the road is "second hand alley" perhaps you should link up with the picture house which is trying to get back off the ground and offer pre theatre suppers.
  12. Child tax credits are a nightmare to get right, everybody with Children can make a claim but you have to prove your earnings every 12 months and they either give you money or decide they have paid you too much. It was what replaced married man's tax allowance. You have to keep proving your income until the child reaches 19. Although as it is means tested if you are in the lower bandings, it gives you access to other benefits, so one thing can lead to another.
  13. Royal armouries at Leeds is free of charge and York is a good day out, train museum is free. If you are 8 months pregnant you need a toilet every five minutes, so most things are completely out and you cant walk very far.. Derwent water and Ulverston Reservoir have nice watering holes
  14. There used to be an excellent one in Orchard Square, disappeared a long time ago and another in St Mary's, the librarys often do special days for toddlers and offer access to the sheffield children's information service. I know in these days of the internet we forget the value of the library.
  15. Drove past Sainsbury's last night, apostrophe covered up. A small victory
  16. Swimming lessions at virgin gym. Not tried them myself, there was a group of maybe 6-8 year olds at about 6.30-7.30 on Thursday but they do holiday sessions and all sorts. I only noticed as I took my kids to Dronfield (a while ago now) and they were shouted at from the edge. Since mine were close in age I never felt confident about teaching them myself.
  17. I have sat in the gardens people watching and seen weddings in the central glass house, it looked absolutely fantastic particularly when you think of some of the cheesy alternatives, this was straight out of four weddings and a funeral. For years, many people have stopped by the BG to have some stylish snaps (and I always image they must have married in an ugly church) but just image the photos if you have have you actually ceremony in the gardens and I would expect some of the money raised goes back into the upkeep of the BG so even better!
  18. Whilst I have naturally straight hair, my daughter has totally different naturally curly blonde hair. Since I have started going to Loaf at Woodseats she has finally managed to tame her hair. Whilst she does occasionally get out the GHDs (am told that curly hair is cause to be bullied), it has looked a lot better since I started using this hairdressers. Not cheap granted but have tried several stylist and feel you get what you pay for.
  19. If you were the range rover driver with the personal reg who parked across two disabled bays... Next time display your blue badge
  20. Sainsbury's on archer road is open until 11 mon- friday - Tesco 24 hours Morrisons on Meadowhead is open til 8 or 9
  21. There is no free parking, in the city centre some lucky people who work in the city centre get discounted parking but most of us have to walk in from the outskirts or catch a bus. Cycling is definitely the cheapest option.
  22. Call me fussy, but Electrical's with an apostrophe on the large illuminated sign outside the Archer Road Store is incorrect. I don't think the store manager understands the rules on using an apostrophe, but if you don't undertand why Sainsbury's has an apostrophe and Electrical's does not - you are safer leaving them out, rather than peppering your signs. Today's moan duly over.
  23. Since the change in the dentist contract this year would recommend that you call they offer emergency treatment, but they dont do fillings or things that you would need to book into a regular dentist for.
