Have you taught her to walk to heel? If so you could use high value treats to walk her into the house with you. Carrying her isn't teaching her anything and may reinforce the behaviour. Getting stressed will make.her fearful too, as hard as it is try not to show any negative emotions. Agree with moonbird, get her a big crate and crate train her so she has a safe place to go when she needs to. She's a working breed and will need more stimulation than just a walk. Try some sniffing games and retrieving games. A couple of fun gundog lessons would teach you both some suitable games to play. I don't think they can literally smell fear as unless your body is producing adrenaline or cortisol (which I'm not sure dogs can smell) then no, they can't literally smell it. However, yes, most dogs are aware of when you are nervous or uncomfortable which can in turn make them fearful or uncomfortable. A dog is able to read the 'honest side of your face'. A dog will also read your body language easily, notice jerky or rigid movements and other subtle signs or your state of mind. I used to have a reactive great Dane and would happily put bed outside if she made people uncomfortable, but I'd be upset and refuse to put my other dogs in another room unless they were allergic as they're the friendliest dogs in the world and this is their home. If you're uncomfortable, don't go. Instead ask to meet in a mutual place and be honest. If you do go, simply ignore the dog. Do make direct eye contact, keep your hands relaxed by your side and let the dog sniff you as it pleases to put it at ease. Don't be left alone with the dog, if the owner leaves the room calmly follow them. Don't make any sudden or reactive gestures or sounds as that may spook the dog. If the dog goes to jump up you just calmly turn your back to it.

Peanut butter often contains xylitol now which is toxic to dogs do always check the label. I think a crate should be a quiet, safe place with comfort blankets and cushions but no toys etc. It's not supposed to be stimulating. I'd Re look at crate training and focus on teaching it to be a quiet place. Maybe the radio is too stimulating too if she doesn't have separation anxiety. I'd also recommend a dog walker.

I've made claims with morethan and they were great. Had animal friends before and tried to claim for a foreign body removal of £2500 but there was a clause I had missed stating you could only claim up to £500 per condition plus pay an excess. It was advertised as £3000 limit but the clause wasn't clear. They also tried to get out of paying saying the previous foreign body removal wasn't stated as a previous medical condition. I had to argue that it wasn't a medical condition. Wouldn't touch animal friends again.

When we had our great Dane, Skye, we went a walk where there was a narrow foot bridge over a stream. She was quite scared of narrow spaces but gingerly went on. When she was half way across she lost her back footing and fell but caught herself and clung on like Scooby Doo. My cocker, Alice, just went to run over the bridge as Skye hauled herself back up and fired Alice into the stream. She then looked over the edge to see what caused the splash. :haha: it all happened within a few seconds and the dogs had sorted themselves out before we could begin to compose ourselves.

I think its definitely worth meeting on neutral territory. You only get one chance at so give it its best chance. Also, puppies can be very testing for even the calmest dogs so watch out for subtle signs of stress from your older dog and allow them plenty of time apart and calm time together as puppies get over excited easily. Also allow the puppy personal space so it can explore and make introductions of its own accord, when it feels confident. I had one cocker who was all up in everyone's face and one that spent the first day his behind the settee. Take their lead.
