  1. its all ok wanting to pay the cheapest possible on your car insureance but..... read the conditions , i work in a vehicle bodyshop and the insurence companies INSIST we fit cheap factor non genuine parts which are a poor fit in comparison to factory parts to keep there costs down and sometimes invalidate your vehicle warranty , the amount of customer complaints is unbelievable about the parts but we can only do AS INSTRUCTED by the insurence companies , when getting quotes please insist that you only want genuine parts fitting in case of an accident and for it to be written into your policy it may go up but at least your car will still look in genuine factory condition if you have an accident
  2. ive got a pair of size 6 brand new never worn for £10 if thats your size
  3. ermmmmm , traders do it all the time between each other !!! do you think they fill the log book in every time ?
  4. alot of places now have 4 wheel computer alignment(we do at work) where they will give you a printout of the measurements before and after adjustment which are easy to understand , usually around£40-£50
  5. well for the 22 years ive been doing bodywork im wrong then !!!! all i can say , ..... its a cathodic coating on original panels which if not broken to bare metal can be keyed properly and painted directly onto , now it all depends on what condition it is when you start , but the question wasnt that it was do i have to prime the wing !!! on which i answered correctly which is no
  6. if its a genuine wing you can paint on the black coat as long as there is no bare metal showing after it has been prepped(keyed off with scotch or wet n dry)
  7. car vehicle tax has nothing to do with the roads anymore , every person what pays tax to the government pays towards the roads car owner or not
  8. he was there when i left in 1991 when it was myrtle springs , the guy is a legend !!! well done with the poem , don't let idiots take away what you have achieved by them having to belittle you to make themselves feel better , he may know how to spell but by the looks of it he has less confidence in himself than the lad that wrote the poem in the first place by having to make himself look better by putting the lad down
  9. Well I have vauxhall diagnostics and as I said I owned one so any help I can give
  10. this is the Z22SE engine and the most common fault for this thing is the coolant temp sensor , there about £20 to buy , the petrol smell is the other most common problem is a cracked exhaust manifold these are around £35-45 second hand to buy , i have had this engine myself and if you need further advise there is a forum all about these engines called Z22SE.co.uk or send me a pm i may be able to help
  11. any body repair shop should be able to do it , but beware you do get what you pay for especially regarding plastics being painted
  12. gilders bodyshop used to be excellent but i would say that as i used to work there !!! now im not to sure as some conversations ive had about the place arnt to posative anymore , you will need to go to vw/audi "approved" bodyshop to keep your warranty up to date , if you go to gilders ask to speak to darren batty he is prob the best straight talking honest person there ,.... if he is still there and will put you in the right direction , whatever you do "AVOID" the manager robert watson as he is clueless and talks rubbish
  13. do both !!!!! shows your willing to learn and then you have 2 skills to fall into either way , dont miss the opportunities given to you these days
  14. they just over write the ecu programming , you can pay fromm £200 upwards depending on what you want/where you go , usually a remap will give you more power with a smoother power curve therefore you dont have to "give it some" as much to make it go better hence getting a better fuel economy , as for doing any harm to your engine , no it shouldnt but it always depends on what condition your engine is in when you get it done !! all manufacturers decrease the power of what the engine can do from factory and have an average program running the ecu to cope with differnt quality of fuel but seeing we have decent fuel over here if you buy it from the right places you can up the ante with no problem at all
  15. like i said "IVE BEEN DOING THIS JOB FOR 22 YEARS" the amount of work i have had to rectify from repairers like chips away is unbelievable
  16. never get a "chips away" type repairer "round your house" to do stuff like that , especially in this weather , the cold and damp will be under paint , the paint finish will suffer and the overhaul quality of the job will be RUBBISH even if it looks "nice and shiny" to have your bumpers painted properly they need to be removed from your vehicle which these types of repairers do not do ,then they need prepairing in a warm dry area then for the best finish they need painting in a dust free air flowing booth which is at the correct temp for the paint to flow adhere and cure , for a value for money good repair job i will second "the bodyshop" at the bottom of rutland road , john is a very honest bloke and a good job is always provided , i myself work in a large franchise bodyshop chain and been been doing the job for 22 years so i know what im on about !!
  17. yep i double triple that , the amount of hassle what goes with the job nowadays is just not worth it , your treated like crap the money is crap , i used to earn more 15/20 years ago than i do now and the amount of paperwork we have to do!!!(if i wanted to be an office pen pusher i would work in an office)
  18. DO NOT become a panel beater for gods sake , been doing it for 22 years the money is getting worse by the year and to be honest it just plain ****e
  19. me and the mrs have been together its a laugh but i was bored before she was lol
  20. something else what us the taxpayers forked out for and got ass raped on what a waste
  21. no its because the snidy untrustworthy customer always trys a fast one saying there was loads of fuel in the car when they brought it in and that you have "stolen it" and demand a full tank in compensation , the other one is ...... that scratch wasnt there before or that mark wasnt there but clearly it was as they walk straight up to the car and to the thing they are on about without even looking !!!!! yes some garages are crap but most of us are not and we try to be as honest as possible as at the end of the day its how we earn a living !!!!!!!! so why would we try it on ????? the best one i hear is when a car has had some accident damage repaired , the car wasnt like that before !!! some people suddenly become experts on something they actually know NOTHING about , would we come to your work and tell you how to do your job ?
