  1. This person has not got the vaguest clue about working in a school in todays climate. If they do work in an educational establishment they need to open their ears and see what is going on around them.
  2. Sorry, I'm a bit of an idiot the birth date should read about 1855, apologies.
  3. Would anyone be so kind as to do me a look up for the maiden name of Ann Elizabeth Sweet born in Sheffield about 1955 and married to William Plant Sweet. I find maiden names the most difficult part of doing the tree, does anyone have any tips? Thank you in advance.
  4. That is fantastic thank you, MoiraHyde. I am thrilled to get this sorted at long last. Sweet is indeed the maiden name that I was looking for. Winnie B. Booth is my grandmother she died in 1972 and was married to Frank B.Booth, he died in 1962. I would like to know if Emma Booth and Thomas Botterill were ever really/officially married. What does a record being officially closed mean? Thanks everyone this progress has made my day!!!
  5. Thanks all for the help. Frank was I think illegitimate. He was my moms dad and astonishingly she can't give me any real details (she is still with us) because as children they were not allowed to ask this sort of question as the situation was seen as an embarrassment. I saw that Henry stated himself as widowed, but he wasn't, Emma had left with their two children Elsie and Gladys to live with Thomas Botterill who she has Frank with. I just couldn't find a maiden name for Emma, her children have the surnames Booth and Botterill-Booth. Thanks again, going to try the Sweet and Crooks surnames now!
  6. Hi All, I have been doing my family tree for about fourteen years. The main names are Reeve, Botterill, Booth. I have got quite a bit of it mapped out but there has always been one or two individuals who are "niggles". One of them is Emma Booth (married name) born Sheffield about 1877. I have got her living with her husband, Henry Booth in the 1901 census, then she appears to leave him to live with Thomas Botterill. I know from elders in my family who have now passed on, that this was a scandal, but I would like to find Emma's maiden name. Would anyone be able to tell me how to do this? I have a basic subscription with Ancestry. I can't find any marriage details. Thank you in advance for any help, it is driving me mad.
  7. Thank you for your help, I have telephoned the police and they have said to ring the company tomorrow.
  8. I know this seems like a trivial thing or a bit silly even, but I have just driven home from work and about 50 yards from home I have had to negotiate quite slowly around a number of vehicles parked on either side of the road. As I passed a large white van, I heard a heavy thump on the top of the car, so I stopped and a chap came from round the side of the van shouting various insults. I asked what was wrong and he said that I had splashed him and he had thrown his tape measure at the car. I can honestly say I don't think that the car was going fast enough and I would never knowingly do something like that. The young man seemed very agitated and eager for a confrontation. I can't really assess the damage at the moment because of the rain, but the chap was in charge of a van from <removed> based at Meadowhead and really I'm at a loss as to what to do next, but also I felt as though his temper/mannerisms suggested that he would escalate the situation very quickly given the chance. I have come home and feel quite shocked that something like that can come from nowwhere? Should I report the incident? And who to?
  9. Thanks for everyones help, been doing the tree on and off now for about 10 years and just going back over trying to put in a bit more detail!
  10. I don't know why Chesterfield is the place of registration, she lived on Basegreen Crescent, I was wondering if she had died in hospital there or something similar.
  11. I am looking for a grave also and seem to be drawing a blank, it is Lilian Heard Reeve, she died in 1965 in Sheffield and lived in the Basegreen area, I think she was about 85, thanks for any help.
  12. I think there might be more than a grain of truth in what you say.
  13. Thankyou for the replies, thats given me a good number of places to try.
  14. Hi all, Could anyone please give me advice about where to go to have the bumpers colour coded on a VW Transporter, which has been converted to a camper. It is the usual VW Silver, but the bumpers are black. Has anyone got an idea with regard price and the best place for a good job. Thankyou.
  15. In a totally neutral position, why is it that schools in the "leafy suburbs" do "well" (and generally maintain their staff for lengthy periods) with regard to results? league tables? etc. As opposed to schools whether or not academies in the less affluent areas of the city? Is it parental support or lack of? or is it low aspirations? I am genuinely saddened by todays youth and would love to be able to genuinely help.
