  1. The only significant statistic we glean from Covid Deniers is that being one, being related to one or just knowing one is very dangerous with an incredible high level of risk from the vaccine and none at all from the virus. The bravery of the Covid Deniers in overcoming the experience of millions of families, of hundreds of thousands of health workers, tens of thousands of medical, scientific, technicians and mathematicians, in thousands of clinics, hospitals and labs in a hundred countries, Their dedication in digging up the words of the weird and the wonderful, the discredited and the political -is unbelievable.
  2. Vaccination levels in the population fluctuate with ignorance spread by the ignorant and opportunists not immigration. Example one- Andrew Wakefield and social media Example two- more than thirty vaccinations are given to children over 16 years covering more than a dozen diseases the vast majority of which are endemic here. Example three -Vaccine Preventable Diseases vaccination programmes are almost global. Sides? What sides? This is a medical issue not a a game of two sides. What debate? The only debate I can see here is how serious UK medical issue is being turned into a 'scarry immigrant' story.
  3. The "...covid one..."? What Covid one? Has it not sunk in yet that dozens of of vaccines were and still are being developed to counter Covid, its mutations and other similar coronaviruses. It is not unexpected from the beliefs you have expressed that you are ignorant of the range of different types of vaccines, the number of vaccines and how they work. Your strong beliefs need a refresher course on the workings of viruses and vaccines, hopefully not supplied solely from your chosen social media.
  4. Forgot to add that "...blood sugar levels..." are not dependent on glucose sugar intake alone- a common myth repeated in the media, Simply -all carbohydrates like starch. complex sugars like fructose (and natural glucose) are converted or stored. The process to supply the simplest soluble sugar (glucose) to all the cells of on demand and on time and in the right amount is automatic, In some people the 'automatic' system does not work from the start or over time and the body is slow or cannot recognise its blood sugar levels. For those not yet having problems,, soup and bread or a Yorkshire Pudding as a starter will immediately raise the blood sugar levels -leading to feeling less hungry when it comes to mains.
  5. Far too simplistic. There are numerous contributory factors that result in Type II Diabetes, 'sugar' in the diet is only one, but a major outcome is the damage caused by the inability to control blood sugar levels. There has been evidence for decades that sugary diets(indicator of a wide range of lifestyle influences) can lead to stokes which in turn lead to dementia. Even before 2017 some scientists have referred to Alzheimer's(not dementia) as Type III Diabetes as the formation of certain chemicals in the brain are observed progressing in both. The latest studies link Alzheimer's with insulin and diabetes in younger age groups which potentially reveal/have the potential for understanding pathway(s) that underpin AD progression. It is also well known that shouting out partial truths associating consumption/diet and ill health, is not always the best way to encourage healthier choices.
  6. On his defection from the Conservative Party Lee Anderson said "Over the last year or so I’ve had to do a lot of soul-searching on my political journey.” I assume his political journey includes when he won the confidence and the time and money of his local Labour Party to persuade voters and be elected a Labour Councillor. Elected as a member of the Labour Party, he defected to the Conservative Party. A few miles further on when he won the confidence and the time and money of his national and local Conservative Party to persuade voters and be elected a Conservative MP following the Conservative Manifesto. Was he in a lay -by when he won the confidence and the time and money of the Conservative Government to become Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party? Lee Anderson was still a member of the Conservative Party when suspended from the Tory Party Whip by his fellow Parliamentary Tories. The difference between an elected Independent MP and one who has become 'independent' of the Party whip should be easy to understand.
  7. We managed to train our commuters to park properly with the judicious use of planters and white 'H's', enabling more cars to park, easier access to our drives, less damage to footways and verges and a quicker journey for all. , ,
  8. Andy C is correct. If a London Freedom Pass has a Red Rose on it, it is an ENCTS(over 66) pass and is accepted nationally including(for now) our trams. If a London Freedom Pass has a NO Red Rose (60+)it is not valid outside London.
  9. A whole hospital is a waste because it has no A&E. What a very odd thing to say. Most hospitals in Sheffield/England/World do not have A&E facilities, The RHH does have a Minor Injuries Unit and a Walk-In Centre and a under 18s A&E nearby. The facilities and expertise available in such a small area is brilliant compared with other big cities/regions There was a time when you had to buy the Star to find out if the A&E was at the NGH. RHH. Royal or Royal Infirmary or which Hospital to have your baby.
  10. The tendering process for the full rebuild and refurbishment of original fleet will reveal if it will be more economic to replace them. Having proved to be the best 'modern' UK tram by streets the rebuild/or replacement can be staggered over several years. There is no technical reason why a 20 year life extension cannot be achieved - only a disability access issue( solved in modern trams with low floors throughout0,
  11. Survival studies and historic evidence have consistently shown that individuals rarely survive more than 21 days in any environment as they are unable to defend and maintain stocks and at the same time adapt to totally different technology (no water, energy etc)without mutual assistance. In the real world those who may find themselves in hostile environments are told stay together, stay put and NOT to ration in such a way that it impairs judgement. Unsurprisingly small groups adept (or learning quickly to adapt) at foraging for resources and food with the ability maintain stocks and adapt to a wide range of new skills can survive for many months but long term prospects are limited. The major danger is from 'giving up' due to despair magnified by solitude. Literature is littered with adventure tales and the heroic activities of fictional characters which appeals to small boys and fantasists but for some continues into adulthood. As most of us find 'spares' and a maintained store cupboard practical and sensible, some obsessives engross themselves 'survivalist' clap trap which invariably turns to weapons. Probably the best source of real long term survival examples is amongst those who survived in places like the extensive hundreds of thousand square of marshes and forests in the former Soviet Union-Pripet Marshes during the 30s, 40s and 50s in face of murder by the Communists then the Nazis and then the Communists again. Despite having ample and healthy diet. food and shelter, life expectancy dropped below 40.
  12. The EU never had anything to do with deep sea fishing, When our stocks of 'white fish' were depleted we moved onto areas fished by other countries outside their 12 mile limits -and these countries did not like it and declared much bigger areas around their coasts where only their ships could fish. The UK tried and failed to bully Iceland when it and other North Atlantic countries declared exclusive fishing zones around their coasts This became known in the press as the "Cod War"- Cold War get it? This applied to all fish. As the stock of many fish species crashed international agreement (not EU dictats) led to management by quota and exclusion of the remaining stock and over 50 years some recovery. It was the international agreement between the Atlantic countries, not the EU that led to quotas and price hikes. The EU did impose fishing rules in the member states' waters, but not the kind of fish in fish and chips.
  13. Fish stocks began to collapse in the 1950s all over the North Atlantic and agreements between EU and non EU countries on quotas to conserve fish stocks long predate and did not even involve the EU. Predictable and pathetic EU bashing failure. Get your facts right- the EU fishing disputes/agreements affect inshore waters. The Cod Wars involved the North Atlantic/Barents Sea deep sea fisheries and started in 1958 and disputes ensued between the UK and Canada, USA, Iceland, Faroes gov. , Greenland gov., Russia, Ireland and Denmark.
  14. Compulsory Friday or Saturday tea time visits have died down because of choice and cost. Post pub visits impossible as pubs open later. Fish and chips is a Belgian/London invention from the 1920's taken up by seaside towns especially Lancashire and Lincolnshire often attracting foreign born owners, Spread to Lancashire women mill workers and then war workers and post war women workers. Available in many forms without rationing in the 40s and 50s. A key element in Government policy for a better fed nation and in enabling women to work and provide food on the table.
