There was one quite far down London Rd @1975 but I can't remember it's name.

It was called J&BW, I think. I remember buying records there.

There was one at the bottom of Sharrow Lane too, that specialised in reggae.

That would be Foxy's Records

I thought Violet May's used to be in the Wicker. If that was'nt it what was that one.and where was Violet May's.

the original Violet May's was on Broad Street near South Street., part of the Park Square roundabout is there now.

Another one of Sheffield's firs city centre record shops was Curtis's, they had one on Angel Street next to the ABC cinema and another on the Moor.

Remember a place in the nearly 70's opposite Church House, I think its St James Street near to the cathedral. downstairs, called Some Kinda Mushroom, all 2nd hand L.P's if I remember, lots of Ravi Shankar albums!, the owner was a guy with long hair (What a surprise!)

Remember it well, I bought my first Frank Zappa album from there(Hot Rats)😭 and also a copy of Oz school kids edition which was banned at the time, a right under the counter job.

They also had a sister shop in Chesterfield with a much better selection of LPs.

Upstairs at HMV on Pinstone Street always seemed a little scary. Records that you might find in your mates big brother's room.

Stairs were on the right hand side as you went in as I recall.

Hard to explain now that finding new/different music back then was HARD.

The some kinda mushroom shops were owned by (Dave?) McPhie. He went on to open a book / record shop in Bakewell and I believe a member of the same family now owns the High Peak book shop at Brierlow bar. I used to supply his shop in Chesterfield in the late 70s/ early 80s.

The one on Chapel Walk that you refer to was Cann's.

J&BW, that was it, across the road from the Cremorne, below Ropers, the Motorcycle and Moskvich car dealers.

🌎 I remember a record shop in Attercliffe , from memory I think

it was called Coxes and was opened by Anthony Newley about

1961. No doubt someone out there will confirm the year.
