Council tax is rising by the maximum amount in lots of local authorities, and salaries keep pace with inflation. Sheffield is no exception.

Sheffield   Eugene Walker   Executive director -resources    ...............        228,212
Sheffield   Ajman Ali                Executive director - operational services ...183,447
Sheffield   Kate Martin          Executive director - city futures..............          182,402
Sheffield   Undisclosed         Director of public health    ...............                       149,094
Sheffield   Undisclosed         Interim strategic director-children’s services.134,100
Sheffield   Undisclosed         Strategic director-adults care and wellbeing...132,255
Sheffield   Undisclosed         Director of policy and performance    .......          118,822
Sheffield   Undisclosed         Undisclosed    ...............................112,500
Sheffield   Undisclosed         Undisclosed    ...............................112,500

The Top 4 maybe 5 earn more than the PM. I'm also wondering, that since several of these positions are "Undisclosed" as to Who runs them, Is it Possible for one or two of the Named Councillors to be wearing TWO HATS?

The undisclosed names by the disclosed job titles is strange - for instance, we know that Greg Fell is the Director of Public Health and could probably work out who the rest are with a quick Google.

On the topic though - I have no qualms with these salaries personally. If we are to attract the best talent to run what is essentially vital services for the city we should be willing to pay for it to convince people with the right skills to come from the much higher paid private sector. We had many years of underpaying and not being able to compete with the private sector, which led to some... lets say poor quality... officers and executives in the past.

None of the people and posts you named are councillors. If you go and actually look how much the elected officials earn, especially the ones with no additional responsibilities, you may actually be shocked how low it is.

Indeed. Elected councillors are on next to nothing and get a ridiculous amount of criticism and stress for it.

Why does the Chief Executive of the council and others get paid more than a Member of Parliament and the Prime Minister?

As HeHasRisen has pointed out if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

And now we've got the cream of the crop where's the progress  ?
