World Birthrate

We are all part of a great experiment and may yet bring about our own downfall. But providing we don't blow the world up, nature will see to it that it survives with us or without us. We are dispensible, and the world may find itself better off without us. Bear that in mind.

However that said, of course we want to survive, and more importantly thrive, so we'd better start addressing the problems and working out the best way to deal with them as a whole, the human race working together for the common good. It's not impossible to find a way through all the difficulties if we have the will and apply ourselves.

Nature has the means of selection to ensure survival of the fittest, but we also need brains and many intangible human qualities to continue successfully.

What is the “great experiment “  ?

We don't now  -  we can't afford to pay them.   In fact we can't afford to pay the ones we've got.

The vast majority of them are most definitely not Brain Surgeons and architects. Those who arrive (legally) with skills that we need should obviously be welcomed with open arms (albeit with possible and legitimate concerns about 'us' syphoning off their 'best' people to the detriment of their own countries).

Those who arrive (especially illegally) with no discernable skills and no means to support themselves should (at best) be rapidly escorted onto the first plane home.

And yes, I do resent "born and bred" Dole Dossers too. But at least there's a fair chance that previous generations of their families have contributed to the welfare system.

My reply was a sarcastic answer to post #23.

I have made my views,  which are very similar to yours,  very clear on this forum, many times in the past.

With wars, famine,  natural disasters etc.  and  especially climate change,  there will be increasing numbers of immigrants coming to our shores whether we like it or not.

We need a clear immigration policy and an efficient processing system which can deal with the numbers that arrive so that economic migrants and undesirables can be removed as quickly as possible.

We also need to train far more of our own doctors, nurses and skilled workers,   maybe with conditions attached,  so they don't leave immediately for fresh fields.

Like yourself,  I would prefer not to steal foreign workers from their roots to unfairly sustain us. but we must have an economy which allows us to pay the going rate for our skilled people to help keep them.

As many people on the planet are already driving,  flying and using resources at unsustainable levels,  in the same manner as you do,  I wouldn't worry about it.

Everybody else has a right to be as inconsiderate about the planet as you are.

They can enjoy themselves too.

You are correct.

No governmental system - which has pretensions to democracy - has the right for all the parties to agree what they are going to do then effectively present that to the electorate as a fait accompli.

Some couples my have decided to only have one child due to the rise in house prices,  when one child inherits the house they would be secure,  if there are two children they would end up with half the money which may not be enough for a deposit,  more than two and it would possibly be a big problem.

Overpopulation will destroy the planet

But the eco nutjobs won't even consider it because it involves shouting at brown people

They prefer to scream and shout at White middle class mums who drive Range Rovers

It's the right wing religious nut jobs, of all colours, who are who are encouraging population boosting. Either because they think a woman's place is pregnant, chained to a kitchen sink and subservient to men or because, for the white ones, they have fallen for the great replacement theory.

eco nutjobs, and centre/left wing people in general favour educating and empowering women because that has repeatedly proven to be the best way of limiting population.

That's not the same thing as being denied access to contraception or abortions.

More extreme is being denied an education or being banned from public spaces without a male member of your family.
