I see Professor J.Van Tam has stepped down.

Surely an opportunity for someone on here to make a career shift

Sounds like  a great opportunity for a (Situational) Narcissist but which one?

Interesting statement from United Airlines in Chicago.

https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/united-airlines-ceo-says-about-3000-employees-test-positive-covid-19-2022-01-11/

Kirby said in a memo on Tuesday that "since our vaccine policy went into effect, the hospitalization rate among our employees has been 100x lower than the general population in the U.S."

Before United's vaccination requirements were put in place, "tragically, more than one United employee on average *per week* was dying from COVID," Kirby said. "But we’ve now gone eight straight weeks with zero COVID-related deaths among our vaccinated employees."

He added: "While we have about 3,000 employees who are currently positive for COVID, zero of our vaccinated employees are currently hospitalized."

United’s prior experience and nationwide COVID data suggests "there are approximately 8-10 United employees who are alive today because of our vaccine requirement," said Kirby.

Trust the experts, they know what they're doing, they don't exaggerate the threat or scaremonger.

15 Dec 21 - Chris Whitty (England's chief medical officer, later knighted for his contribution)

Covid-19 Omicron wave is more dangerous than Delta despite claims variant will be milder, Chris Whitty warns

Chris Whitty played down early evidence that the strain is less likely to cause serious illness in those infected, saying the data had been “over-interpreted”.

He warned that while many key facts about Omicron remain unclear, “all the things that we do know are bad”.

Because it’s a step along the way in determining how viruses modify themselves.

Thats how science works. In a methodical way.

Just in case there is another major step in the life of Covid 19

Whereas you can cherry pick the bits you approve of with no responsibility whatsoever except for you and your family.

Errrr. How much more responsibility do you want me, or anyone else, to take ?

Basically, right from the start of this I wanted a proportionate response.

And we have not had that, not by any definition.

The world, most of it anyway, has reacted like the world has never reacted before.

Read your history books, this is the biggest over reaction in the history of the world.

It is clear that those adults are suffering from some kind of mental sickness. Sad that such a thing has now become normalised.

That child has VERY CLEARLY, and repeatedly, indicated that it does not want that thing on it's face.

'No' means 'no', unless, it seems, they are bigger and stronger than you :(

I absolutely agree. In my view those parents should be ashamed of themselves, and if it was up to me I'd do them for child abuse.

Do you get out much?

I worked right through this pandemic and went out as much as possible, stretching the ludicrous disproportionate rules to breaking point and beyond. It has since been proven most of those rules did absolutely sweet FA, and more will be proven over time I am certain of that.

And I'll tell you what, I did the right thing because I have not developed fear for Covid like so many seem to have.

And @Jack Grey why is this a socialist matter when the edict from on high comes from a Conservative Government?

You know as well as I do that Labour have been pushing for more restrictions right through this.

What is happening, and has happened, in Wales and Scotland (both left wing governments) is almost certainly what would have happened here had Labour been in power.

I've been right far more often than that load of bed wetting scaremongerers. Did you want me to remind you ? :

Mid March 2020 : "We could have half a million Covid deaths in the UK"
19 March 2020 : "12 weeks to flatten the curve".

Late March : "This virus is indiscriminate"
November 2020 : "Modelling suggests 4,000 deaths per day worst case scenario".
Spring 2021 : "Get double vaccinated to get out of Covid and back to normal".
July 2021 : "Freedom day is irresponsible, we could have 200K cases per day by August".
11 Dec 21 : "Omicron could cause 75,000 deaths in England by end of April"

15 Dec 21 : "Omicron likely to be the biggest threat of Covid pandemic so far".

Not that old chestnut.

They are the opposition and don’t drive the agenda when the government has an 80 plus majority
