Why Should People Vote Labour In May ?

There are many feeling like that.

The situation we have just makes people apathetic/

The voting system needs changing so every candidate has a fair chance and we can have someone who truly represents us and not the party.

People have stood as independents but without the backing of main parties resources have found it very difficult.

How does the system work ?

It's known as first past the post and the only way to describe it quickly ( I don't have a lot of time ) is that votes are lumped together.

We need PR which is proportional representation where seats are allotted according to how many actual votes a candidate gets.

A bit complicated but the  end result is with our system a party could get elected with a massive majority when they have only a tiny majority of votes.

This makes it much harder for independent candidates to ever get elected and means one of the main parties almost always wins.

You can get governments and councils elected even when the majority have not voted for them.

Exactly.

And please don't anyone say that we've already had a vote on PR (Proportional Representation,) back in the day when Nick Clegg lost his seat... we didn't.

By Tory sleight of hand, That vote was for AV (Alternative Vote,) which most people didn't understand.

And while we're at it, the Last election was all about 'getting Brexit done.' and little else. The Tories are very good at these sort of sleight of hand gambits. Beware.

Most people wont understand PR either, because most people are thick and/or are scared of change.

Quite correct,

Both the Tories and Labour have a vested in interest in keeping our FPTP system as it is  because it's almost guaranteed that one or the other take power.

The party whip system makes matters even worse for us because the MP's are voting according to what the party tells them instead of representing the people who elected them.

Neither of them want to see a lot of independent MP's in the commons because it weakens their stranglehold on power and gives the people more say.

The biggest lie of all is that we are living in a democracy.

If changes to the system had been made UKIP would have won a lot of seats
