iansheff
Well the Government have given bankrupt Croydon Council special permission to raise the CT by 15%, how long before we all start getting clobbered with hikes like this? Around £235 will be added to the average household’s annual payment, which comes on top of the almost £40 hike by Sadiq Khan for City Hall’s share of the bill. We are just cash cows for the councils, they want our money anyway they can get it . Axe
The key words are "special permission" However there has to be a risk other councils will seek "special permission" to increase council tax by a huge amount. The whole issue of public spending is out of control and needs sorting out. It is well know that departments in the public sector waste money just to make sure all their allocated budget is used because they want an increase in the budget they are given in the year to follow. Wastage is the biggest problem in the public sector and councils along with the NHS are arguably the biggest culprits.

Where did I say about wasting money? This is the 3rd time Croydon Council have been declared bankrupt, something is definitely wrong there. It totally represents the council.
geared
The ex-CEO of the council that helped run it clean into the ground took over £600,000 in their final year, with a hefty golden handshake at the end. Raising council tax so much is a poke in the eye for residents. https://insidecroydon.com/2022/08/30/ex-council-ceo-negrinis-company-finds-business-a-struggle/

They should be able to increase council tax to what ever level they want. If the electorate don't like it, they will vote them out.

It is the government's job to impose a cap on increases allowed. Both Labour and Tory run councils are guilty of wasting money and not giving council tax payers good value for money.
