Hosepipe Bans, Why The 2 Week Delay?

Recommended Posts

Topic says it all really :)

Yorkshire Water are introducing a hosepipe ban, but not till the 25th.  Anyone know why it takes a fortnight to introduce it?  Is it so that the shareholders have time to fill their swimming pools?

Not being immediate seems daft.

Let's compare with a certain food shortage e.g. pasta. What does every bugger do? Buy more!

Watch the sprinklers go on before 25th.

Hosepipe ban eh?

So I'll assume Yorkshire water have fixed all the leaks then?

I think essentially they only bring the ban in when water levels reach a certain point, which they presumably haven't yet, but it's predicted they will (around the 25th). Of course you could argue, 'why not now, to stop them falling lower' but, hey ho. I'm sure some people would whinge if they did that.

Also, as much as many people will say, 'why a 2 week notice?' just as many people would be saying, 'why an immediate ban?! you didn't give us any notice!'

If we ALL fill a couple of buckets with water and drive up to Redmires and pour it in, this could be avoided.

Ignore it, these companies have been making huge profits, paying huge wages and bonuses, they haven't invested in the infrastructure whatsoever (the last new reservoir was built in 1991 when the UK population was much less than it is now) a strong Government would make them stand to the cost of upgrading/catering to higher demand but it won't happen.
