Naive   10 #5 Posted February 3, 2018 They probably want someone from an ethnic minority to do some specialised journalism. Or maybe they think that they are under-represented in the organisation.  All perfectly legal and understandable.
 Share this content via...
geared   322 #6 Posted February 3, 2018 The BBC would describe this as Affirmative-Action or Positive-Action. That is, to offer jobs specifically to people from a disadvantaged background who have suffered discrimination.  You could argue that as racism in general and racial discrimination is illegal and has been for a long time, this type of advert is no longer acceptable. Car Boot   10 #12 Posted February 3, 2018 This traineeship is only open to candidates from a black, Asian or non-white ethnic minority background  Figures published in 2016 showed that 13.4 percent of the BBC’s workforce is made up of employees from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds.  Census data from 2011 shows that 13.1 percent of British citizens come from ethnic minority backgrounds.  The compulsory BBC TV licence-fee funded corporation aims to increase Black, Asian and ethnic minorities to 15 per cent of their workforce by 2020. To achieve this, the BBC has to exclude people applying for various positions based on the colour of their skin.  This position is an example of this BBC racist practice.
