sgtkate
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jeremy-corbyn-says-doesnt-consider-8712881 There's lots more like this...just picked the Mirror.. I doubt anyone really believes they are wealthy if it's accumulated wealth or gradual increase of earnings. It's like that frog in boiling water analogy. Give someone a massive wealth increase like a lottery win or tripling their income overnight then yeah they'd probably say they were wealthy but someone earning over £100k is likely to not *feel* wealthy if they've had average pay rises since leaving school. Every single one of us one here is wealthy yet do any of us feel it? We are the 1% and it's very easy to forget that.

sgtkate
Are you saying that someone on 160k isn't wealthy..? You clearly didn't read my post properly. There is no specific definition on wealthy, no cut off point that says if you earn X amount of money you are wealthy. Do you think you are wealthy? If not, why not? Because you are. You most definitely are, it's just you don't realise it.

sgtkate
What if I accept that I am? Well at least relatively..? Shouldn't JC do the same..? Yes, and if he was asked is he relatively wealthy I'm fairly sure he'd say yes. Those comments in the paper were not part of a question, it was just Corbyn talking about how he feels arts and 'high brow' music shouldn't be restricted to the wealthy. The point you seem to have missed in your attempts to have another pop at Corbyn is that whether someone *feels* wealthy or not is absolutely unconnected to how much money they have. It's a feeling nothing more. Someone who has come from absolute poverty would *feel* wealthy earning minimum wage. Someone who has come from a millionaires background wouldn't *feel* wealthy if they had to live off £100k a year. It's all relative. Do I think Corbyn is wealthy. Yes. But I also think you are wealthy, as am I and as is everyone person on SF.
L00b
Are you saying that someone on 160k isn't wealthy..?Not if they blow £95k (£160k after tax) on coke and hookers, they're not Didn't think I'd need to explain the difference between wealth and income to you, t...do I? If I said to him, "lets tax the top 3% more" he'd be all over it. The problem is he doesnt see himself as wealthy. He is wealthy - theres no way round it. Its the fact hes so unaware of it thats scary.

Or does he really think he isn't?Would it knock his man of the people image?..again, just a question

Its the fact hes so unaware of it thats scary. As I say it's all amazingly relative. Everyone on here is in the top 4% of wealth in the world. And anyone earning the UK average salary is in the top 1%. Yet I'd bet most people on minimum wage would never dream of thinking they are wealthy. Equally, within the UK only, someone earning £150k puts you in the top 10% of earners. So compared to the world we are all more wealthy than Corbyn is within just the UK. Welcome to relativity my friend. I'm not defending Corbyn here, is clearly is wealthy, but he hasn't been asked that unless I've missed a news report? In the report I linked to he says "I don’t consider myself high-brow or wealthy" If he was asked what would he say?
