France is more involved militarily than we are in Islamic countries. France has a much larger Moslem population than we do. Poverty, crime, street drugs and unemployment is much worse in the banlieus surrounding large French cities than in similar Uk cities. France is stuck with rigid 18th century Republican values which will always rub up against religious belief whereas UK has a more liberal approach to diversity hence more inclusive. France is more racist than UK.

If Muslamic nutters got hold of nuclear weapons why would our subs act as a deterrent? They are irrational God botherers who believe in an afterlife. Nukes are not a deterrent against the mentally deranged.

Well. Not really. Not all nuclear weapons are planet destroyers. There are tactical nuclear weapons as well.

 

Say if we got into a conventional war with Russia. It was a stalemate so they dropped a small nuclear devise on a town, completely destroying it, say Chesterfield. Demanding we surrender or Rotherham goes next.

 

If we have no nuclear weapons, tactical or otherwise, we'd have to surrender.

 

If we have them this scenario would not happen.

Trident acts as a deterrent to all negative forces, most wouldn't launch an attack as a risk of being wiped out in the process, your example of terrorist is true (ie martyrdom) but they are only a small portion of what it may deter.

 

Pumping extra money into intelligence won't necessary help, look at Lee Rigby it was 2 people who communicated face to face with only a blade, there is no easy answer to preventing this extra money anywhere wont provide a fix.
