Minimo
I have windows 7 and don't want 10. It keeps trying and failing to install updates. How can I hide the darn things. The solution I found (to right click on update and choose hide) won't work because there is no option to hide. Any solution please?
Mikes10
If you mean how to prevent the W10 upgrade, see the following: http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/how-stop-windows-10-upgrade-downloading-your-system
Minimo
No, I've looked at that website and it doesn't help. I got rid of win10. It is all the updates they keep trying to install. Although they are failing (because win10 doesn't exist) they just keep appearing. Clearly others are having the same problem, but as I said, the solution given doesn't work. Does the option to hide updates appear elsewhere?
Mikes10
Try the windows troubleshooting update wizard: Control Panel > Troubleshooting > System &Security > Windows Update Wizard
choogling
go into control panel and turn off windows upgrades or choose to "let windows download upgrades but let me choose when to install them"when the upgrade choice has been delivered tick do not install and do not remind of this upgrade again. That should work. ElasticMan
No, I've looked at that website and it doesn't help. I got rid of win10. It is all the updates they keep trying to install. Does the option to hide updates appear elsewhere? I don't know why the updates are failing? Surely it isn't trying to give you windows 10'uodates if you have windows 7? Your best bet would be to complete the updates, turning them off is a dangerous idea.
Minimo
punkin - that seems dangerous because you wouldn't know if an important necessary update had failed. ElasticMan - that is exactly what it is doing, that is why it is so annoying. Mikes10 - I still couldn't find anything helpful there. choogling - I have selected choice ' let me look before installing. I will have to wait till next list of updates and do as you suggested. That seems the best possibility of success. Fingers crossed. Thank you all very much.
swarfendor437
This might help: http://www.myce.com/news/how-to-uninstall-kb3035583-the-windows-10-downloader-for-windows-7-and-8-1-75681/ Also when you get a list of updates, and should kb:3035583 rear its ugly head again to install, click on the 'hyperlink' to view the updates it wants to install, right-click KB3035583 and select 'hide update' - that way you can forget about it! I think there are still bits lurking if you have 64-bit Windows. [sent from my reinstalled Windows 7 Desktop!]
