stpetre
Just salt and caramel - nothing else!Me too!. Yes that what I thought about 'Burdall's 'and the Hillsborough Barracks connection or maybe Carter's -they of Attercliffe Road- what with 'Sailor Boy' custard powder and other concoctions they had. hillsbro
.....was Burdalls based in the old Hillsborough Barracks at one time?...Yes. The company declined after Herbert Burdall died in 1982 (though the gravy salt was made - elsewhere - until 2000)....What was piquancy...Salt. A good example of shrewd, creative marketing!. harvey19
It was facing Hillsborough Park in the block where the Chinese Restaurant stands. I bought a suit from them Wonder if there is a photograph of the area before the extension was built on the front where the Chinese Restaurant is now. I have tried Picture Sheffield without success. mosccat
Hello I have just joined this forum but I am interested in Burdalls. I have a 1934/6 Austin 7 Van first registered by Burdalls in 1936.
stpetre
There was also Ernest Burgess's shop. Would that be the same 'Burgess's' that was on Attercliffe Road between Staniforth Road and 'Banner's' ? Was the best men/youth clothing shop that wasn't in the town centre. ('Peterkin's', tho' not in Hillsborough, wasn't bad either.) Edited April 21, 2016 by stpetre Edit
