It's a good idea. But who sets the questions?

I wasn't recommending it as a policy.

But I do lean towards making voting compulsory (cf. Australia).

If need be, ballot papers could include a "None of the above" option, as a sop to those who do not like the compulsory element.

I'm not a fan of compulsion myself, but I'd like to see more encouragement to vote.

 

We should look at weekend voting. Voting over more than one day. And online voting.

The whole point of allowing postal votes is to permit access to the vote to all who are entitled to vote.

 

For example, I have a postal vote, because, even in the days of the equalities act, the polling station, locally, was in an inaccessible building at the local school. The hall used was down a flight of stairs, and practically no-one with a mobility impIrment could get down to it. Not exactly reasonable, I would say.

Unless you live in a cave and eat moss, everyone pays VAT. That's a tax. Quite a high one.

 

Indeed. Income tax is oft thought of as the only tax, but it is a tax very few pay and not that much is collected in income tax.

 

Drunkards pay more tax than the average working person who is actually a net benefit claimant.

 

Too many 'hardworking people' with jobs are reliant on the state nowadays, to top up their **** poor wages and subsidise their employers.

There was an item on TV about adults with learning difficulties not getting to vote; adults with the mental age of a child.

Maybe the rules cannot be set fairly to only allow capable adults to vote?
