Anti Muslim hate crimes soar after killing in Woolwich.

There has been a massive spike in the number of hate crimes against Muslims. Recorded attacks (including criminal damage, verbal abuse, physical attacks and 2 suspected arson attacks) have increased at least 5 times the amount of attacks recorded in the weeks before his untimely death.

 

After making the erroneous assumption that the murderers of Lee Rigby were speaking on behalf of all Muslims, some idiots have taking it upon themselves to exact their 'revenge'. This in spite of Lee Rigby's family saying clearly:

 

We would like to emphasise that Lee would not want people to use his name as an excuse to carry out attacks against others.

 

Perhaps some people don't need much of an excuse to engage in a bit of racist inspired hatred

I suspect that some people, mainly in the BNP, EDL and other far right groups, are ambivalent about Lee Rigby's murder, i.e. they are in part genuinely affronted by it but also secretly rather pleased as it gives them an opportunity to vent the irrational hatred they already held against all Muslims, whether 'extremist' or not.

With respect, other than "EDL" being spray painted at the scenes of the arson attacks, there's no evidence that the arson were 'hate crimes'. Any fool could spray 'EDL' so that 'evidence' is extremely weak and it could be argued that another group or even the victims (of the arson) did it themselves and spray EDL to implicate them.

 

Now I'm not accusing anyone of that and neither am I supporting/defending the EDL. I'm looking at it from a neutral standpoint.

Apparently most of this massive rise in hate crimes, was just people posting on Facebook and Twitter, the body who reported this have 'shamefacedly' been forced to admit. Talk about statistics, and damned lies.

 

Someone having a rant online is a bit different from thumping someone in the street or setting fire to a mosque, don't you think? For it to count as a crime there has to be some damage, imo, and not just to someone's delicate feelings.

No one knows what Lee Rigby's stance would have been, actually, so it's not really your place to stand up for what he might or might not have believed in.

The facts are that Muslims and Non Muslims ARE attacking each other for various reasons, don't try and pussy foot around the issue, there is a lot of hate on both sides and I can see both sides of the argument.

 

People like OP are not helpful as a causal link can't be established unless you're willing to listen to both sides.

 

Why did Muslims kill Lee Rigby? Because he was a soldier and those Muslims believe that Muslims in their homeland are being unjustly killed by UK soldiers.

 

Why is EDL attacking Muslims? Because they're reprising the attack on Lee Rigby.

Specifically, how did the 99.9999% of Muslim's in this country who have no wish or desire to behead anyone, let along a soldier out collecting for charity, bring on revenge attacks and abuse?

Whether you believe it or not, this is what ordinary people who had nothing to do with the extremists in Woolwich are having to face. Being spat on, being physically threatened, Mosques are being burned etc.

How exactly did they bring that on themselves?

This post and the rest of them. We've had one poster already leave the forum this week because of the Islamophobia on here and he wasn't even Muslim.

 

It's the same set of arguments you see time and again on the sexism and homophobia threads, too: some combination of playing down, minimising, or trivialising people's accounts of the problem; arguments that actually, the thing that is QUITE OBVIOUSLY misogynistic or homophobic or Islamophobic isn't, in fact, those things at all because *insert stupid here*; the 'you brought it on yourself' tactic; the 'but you're just as bad' tactic, and so on and so forth.

 

Dull, depressing, ignorant.
