And don't question why our British summer's are virtually non-existent. Â Best to call it by the non-threatening term 'climate change', then any variation in temperature - hot or cold - can be explained away by using this bland term. Â The problem (perhaps) with talking about climate change (inevitable) is that for the past many years, we have been told that human activity is primarily responsible for the increase in CO2 levels and that increase will cause the Earth to warm up. Â We certainly see more news reports of extreme weather than we did 60 years ago ... but then again, we have rather more TV sets than people had 60 years ago and rather more reporters out there filming the weather. Â We have been told that "if the temperature increases by n degrees (where n is a very small number) there will be a temperature runaway". Â Climatological records do not go back very far, but we do know that when the Romans were manning theirforts along Hadiran's wall, they were drinking wine made from grapes they grew in the vineyards up there. Â Do the Northumbrian vineyards produce many good vintages nowadays? Â If it was warm enough to grow grapes outside in Northumberland, then it was warmer at that time than it is now. Â If the primary cause of global warming is human activity, where were all the factories spewing out all the Carbon Dioxide? They must've been heavily automated, because there were hardly any people on the planet (compared to today's figures.) Â I can hear the argument already: "Aaah! But you're looking a a localised climate!" Â Really? If the climate at 55'N 002'W was warmer then than it was now, where were all the colder regions at that latitude? I know it sounds counter-intuitive but a warmer global climate can quite easily cause more snow than normal within a localised cold weather spell. This is because a warmer global climate will cause more water to evaporate into the atmosphere. In turn more moisture in the atmosphere will mean more precipitation. More precipitation will mean more snow within a localised cold weather pattern.  We may have seen a lot of snow this winter but you should also realise that only a few days ago the World Meteorological Organisation announced 2010 as being the warmest on record globally.  http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/sci/2011-01/21/c_13700425.htm  Have they applied some sort of 'correction' factor to the figures, as they seem to do? Has the raw data actually been released this time, or is it 'sensitive' (ie doesn't show what they want). The science behind ACC is far from clear or settled.
