When I was at the peak of my fitness I challenged Jenkin Road and thought that someone had welded my crank to the bike frame. On this years Tour de France for that very reason.

When we were kids in 50s/60s we used to "tack" the steep streets on our bikes, of course much less traffic then.

I wonder if Jenkin Road has just received another 190 votes from cyclists. :hihi:

West Hill just over the border in Rotherham would be a big contender.

Blake Street is the hardest to ride up on my road bike, so I vote for that :hihi:

Second would be Woodfall Lane, followed by Jenkin Road.

Monday's Express stated that Jenkins Rd was very steep at 33.3%. It may be steep but I don't think a hill can be 1 in 3. I thought 1 in 4 was the steepest that could be safely navigated. But I could be wrong.

Not for SHEFFIELD'S steepest road it wouldn't.

Have they run out of stories about Diana? 30% is the maximum gradient on Jenkins Road. The average is said to be 10%.

There was a good website on this. Will try and find it.

You first have to decide what qualifies as a road and whether its in sheffield.

It would have been spectacular to have seen the TDF go up Haghill.

Heres a list I found

These are the Top Ten steepest hills for the Sheffield area.

Hagg Hill (not old Sheffield) gradient 17.1%.

Victoria Street, Stocksbridge (not old Sheffield) gradient 14.85%.

Blake Street, gradient, 12.79%.

Wellfield Road, gradient 12.5%.

Fir Street, gradient 11.26%.

Cobnar Road (top part) gradient 11.25%.

Upperthorpe, gradient 11%.

Winnats Pass Derbyshire (between the two Mam Tor roads) (not Sheffield) gradient 10.91%.

West Hill Rotherham (from Droppingwell Rd to Poucher St) (not Sheffield) gradient 10.4%.

Jenkin Road (From Tyler St/Holywell Rd to the highest part just past Forthill Road) gradient 10%.

There's a really steep hill in Wincobank, begins with J. Can't remember the name offhand.

Sheffield is like Rome and Prague - built on seven hills.

your thinking of jenkin rdsrarts at the traffic lights and goes to the top of wincobank hill
