jane2008
I only worked Herries routes for suet (overtime) , though I met many Herries drivers in Bridge Street. The only one I remember now was Big John who was built like a brick built outhouse. I remember him in the hut saying "I never get trouble on my bus", we all smiled, who the heck would take him on. I think I might know who you are talking about. If it's the same person, he used to drink in the Dev on Herries road, literally hands like shovels. He passed away a few years back. A lovely man

A lovely man Could be the same man, easy going man, but perhaps as well because he was big and strong and really did not understand why he had no problems on his bus, we all knew why, even the nutters would not take him on. blackydog
Didn't know any drivers just maintenance staff. Very rare I see any of them these days, all went our separate ways in 1986 following deregulation.
