supremeedito Posted September 17, 2003 Share Posted September 17, 2003 Forget Blockbuster-type services, I use an online DVD rental service based in Sheffield called DVD Showtime. You pay a monthly sub for a given number of disks at any one time and all postage and packaging is including. They have a great range and you can swap each disk five or six times a month - post office allowing. My membership costs £18 a month for 3 DVDs at a time. If I watch them fairly promptly and drop them in the post (pre-paid) asap then I can get up to 18 different disks a month. They all have plenty of TV series so I get to catch up with Farscape etc which is often on when I am on campus. Yes, it's already happening. DVD software allows you to copy an original easy enough and dead easy to rip it with. Where can I rent a dvd without walking miles? I don't have a car and I don't want to pay a monthly supscription. The library idea is good, but not if it's 8pm on a sunday night and you decide to chill out with pizza and film. Copying dvds from friends is fine, but can't always plan ahead. So since this topis was last discussed, has anything changed does anyone know?! Surely there must be somewhere round West Street that rents films?! Blockbuster on ecclesall road is quite a long way, I wouldnt walk there in the dark, and is a hastle to take it back too. Jackson's by the Arts Tower has a really dismal selection. Any ideas?! I think it's much better value for money than a traditional walk-in video shop and there's a much bigger choice of classic films. The only drawback is that you might not get the latest releases first, but I've put a new film on my selection a month or two before release and in the case of two films, got them on the Saturday before the release date of Monday! Yes, Apollo Video on London Road do DVD's, but not in the same quantity as Blockbuster, it's a fairly small shop and they don't have many copies of each DVD. babygem Posted January 24, 2005 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Yeah I noticed that too - used to go to Choices in Hillsborough when I lived there, and still do if I can be bothered to drive there, but usually my boyfriend just gets me films off the internet or borrowed from mates. I think the Vlockbuster machines in both Sheffield Union and Hallam Union have been taken away in the last couple of months - well they're not where they used to be anyway!
