  1. That sounds like a pretty good deal. We watched loads of bands at the Classic Rock Bar, Conquest of Steel, Strongheart etc. all brilliant bands. Sheffield's crying out for another venue like Classic rock Jared, What sort of deal do the bands get at WSL, I've been there in the past prob about 5 or so years ago, I think then they had a noise limit on not sure if it's the same now.
  2. This is true, it's a hard slog for an unsigned band. It's just not as easy as it used to be. A lot of the venues have closed that used to offer the band a few quid in return for playing. I think the Classic Rock Bar used to I'm not sure but of course that's gone now. Pity
  3. I think most of the unsigned local bands are willing to play for nothing, just maybe a beer or two. Not sure if west st live are still putting bands on at the moment, i know in the past they were doing just that. As for the festivals, been to most, except rebellion, watched a band last year play who i think are playing rebelliion this year, resistance 77, they were excellent, might try and get a day ticket if they're on offer.
  4. The Nelson's a great place for music. You might also like to try Viking Skull at the academy later this week (thats if you're into rock n metal) they're a brilliant fun band. They've got jess margera (CKY) on drums and Roddy Stone on vocals great.
  5. I've heard this about vaccines, its very worrying. The only thing I can say, is that after getting the flu vaccine last year (after refusing it the previous year) I developed shingles a very painfull condition, and am still suffering from the after effects. After googling flu vaccine and shingles I got loads of different forums about this. Maybe its just coincidence
  6. "I do agree free will exists, but I don't think it is a way to justify why evil exists in the world. Free will exists because that is the nature of life. I choose not to steal and murder because it is against my personal morality, rather than because I am afraid of hell. " This is true, it doesn't justify evil, there are a whole load of other things that can be attributed to that as we all know. But free will gives us choice and I wonder if religion in some respects takes away that choice.
  7. I think an earlier poster hit the nail on the head, religion is all about control, and what better way to do it than portray a vengeful god who would impose all manner of punishments on us. They all say that theirs is the true religion, all this does is seperate the community. when what they should be doing is bringing the community together. Anyway what happened to free will, if there is a god and he/she/it gave us free will, why then would she give us the ten commandments and punish us for not sticking to them. Isn't free will about finding our own way in life?
  8. My father died in hospital of lung cancer, it was very distressing to see and some of the treatment he received was very uncaring. I wont go into the circumstances of his death, but it was enough for us to decide that we would care for my mother at home when her time came. She died at home with us looking after her, this again was a traumatic experience for us, she was diagnosed with liver cancer and we all took turns to care for her around the clock. She had refused to go into hospital after what happened to my father. The worse thing was we couldn't get adequate pain relief for her and the support from her local gp just wasn't adequate. If we'd had the proper support then her passing would have been a lot easier for her and for us.
  9. Most of them get up my nose, but the ones who really make me cringe are......................................... Mr. & Mrs. Balls!!!! I have to say though that Mr. Balls takes top prize.
  10. I watched a tv programme a couple of weeks ago cant remember which channel though , although I must say it was all beyond me. The scientist was talking about this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/horizon/2001/paralleluni.shtml a parallel universe, and that maybe ghosts might just be shadows of that all strange stuff.
  11. We were always at the Mucky duck, watching bands. It was a brilliant time, as for bands I think Resistance 77 are still going strong.
  12. Hmm, maybe the climates just right for a good old punk rock anthem , like the Sex Pistols - god save the queen or maybe another RATM 'killing in the name' who knows.
  13. They behave like idiots, I can't stand the constant sniping that goes on between them. The last lot of lying, cheating, scum were enough to put me off politicians for life, along with all the fat cat union bosses and their over inflated salaries. I cant stand any of them.
  14. I just love this clip of Gary Moore and BB King, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqAuuIDU2sw
  15. Why should you be ashamed. You've done your bit and worked hard, no shame in that, and as you say applied for many jobs, even taking on voluntary work. No you shouldn't feel ashamed. Good luck in finding employment.
  16. Your right, we were down in St. Ives last year for the music festival, folk and poetry in nearly all the pubs, what a fantastic week. Yes I'm proud to be english and proud of all our wonderful music and traditions , folk, punk , rock you name it. I'm not proud though of the two scrotes on another thread who mugged a guy near Bramall Lane.
  17. no probs The nice thing about Viking Skull is you can usually grab a beer with them afterwards, great bunch of guys
  18. Check out Black Spiders and Viking Skull, playing the Academy on 26th Feb. Viking Skull are a great band and much fun to watch.

  21. That would be a real shame, the grapes was a great pub for young up and coming bands. Had some great times there. Happened to the Classic Rock Bar too............loved that pub, remember seeing Conquest of Steel there, the place was ram packed with bikers. Brilliant night. Is the Boardwalk still open, I remember a few years ago watching unsigned bands play under the boardwalk, not sure if that place is still going either.
  22. Whilst we're at it, how did these three get away with it http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2010/10/21/peers-suspended-from-house-of-lords-over-expenses-claims-115875-22648943/ and does this mean they'll be allowed to go back and carry on with the job once they've paid up?
