  1. Had a heart attack myself about two years ago and can't say enough nice things about the quality of care I received at the NGH. From the first paramedic responder to the superstars who delivered the meals I was superbly taken care of. Hope you are feeling a lot better now and make sure you take up the rehab program if they offered it to you, the guys who run that are just as good and you'll not regret it.
  2. There every day, rain or shine, 365 a year etc etc.
  3. very funny. Bang goes my plan for going on Dragons Den
  4. Nice to see the age old debates taking place once again. My tuppence for what it's worth... I always pick up my dogs poo but sometimes wonder why I bother when the dog bins seem to get emptied once in a blue moon resulting in a mountain of sh#t and plastic bags. Then of course there are the walks where you'll not see sight nor sound of poo bin and on such occassions hang the bag on a tree, not for decoration but to reind me to pick it up again on my way out. It's not nice to start a 2 hour walk and have to carry around one or more bags of poo for the whole journey. I have been led to believe that some discussion has been taking place about reversing policies regarding picking up and bagging poo and replacing it with a kick and cover policy anyway which makes a lot more sense. What we really need of course is a human safe chemical that breaks down doggie doo in seconds, then we could all walk round with water pistols in holsters and blast the piles as they land. Might be worth mentioning also that while poo in the parks isn't pleasent neither is the vast amount of waste that gets left every summer weekend by the picnicers and the current trend for thinking its acceptable (and safe) to have open fires and barbecues in the park.
  5. Ah, I see... you want me silent on the forum as well as 'hounded' from the park. Whatever next? Shall we fire up the ovens?
  6. For what it's worth, I'm fully aware that my dogs aren't human... thank God. How many of society's ills are created by humans? Do I put my dogs above other humans??? Damn right I do. They're loyal, affectionate, always pleased to see me and enjoy nothing more than playing. They don't burgle, drink, behave anti-socially etc etc etc. As a wiser man than I said, the more I see of man, the more I prefer the company of dogs. I guess I am the guy who worries you because I 'sleep' with my dogs. I think you've put your own little spin on that comment that perhaps says more about you than it does me. If you've never had the pleasure of a dog sleeping at your feet then you're the one missing out my friend. As for you having a greater right to the park than my dogs and I, I would challenge you to justify that. Where are you and your kids when the summer holidays are over? When it's piddling it down, or snowing, or sub zero? We dog walkers are the mainstays of just about any park in this city. We get the most use out of most of the open spaces in the city.
  7. At one time or another my dogS have all sides of the bed. And your problem is????
  8. I control my dogs... which is more than can be said for most parents in the park. I clean up after my dogs... which is more than can be said for most picnicers (?) in the park... My dogs do not... hurl abuse at passersby, leave fishing line and assorted bits floating around near the pond, toss their empty beer cans, kebab wrappers, lolly sticks etc on the ground, don't run away screaming and waving their arms upon sight of a child, scrawl graffiti on every conceivable surface, dig up the bowling greens. Yes, my dogs are animals but then so are humans. Lets go and check out some statistics shall we, some facts in bklack and white. Grab yourself a weeks worth of Stars and lets count up the number of incidences where someone has been killed, maimed, injured or attacked for no reason by a dog or group of dogs... then lets count up the number of incidents where a gang of louts, or ****** up individuals have attacked or assaulted or otherwise abused. Might make for interesting reading. Might also make you consider about exactly who should be described as animals. I'd do it myself but I'm off to toss a ball for my dogs and intimidate the local kids.
  9. You know, what gets my goat in the local parks is the number of people who think it is perfectly fine to set barbecues going with no concern about the ground... and then there's those who don't bother to clear up the rubbish they leave behind... and then there's cyclists who speed around without a care for anybody else... and then let's not forget the organised sports players who take over whole chunks of the park and surround us with foul language and abusive supporters... and then there's people with kites and wires that get caught everywhere, fishermen ditto, these stupid boarding devices... in fact, tell you what, you can all just f@%k off and leave me and my park alone.
  10. Would happily donate a day to the cause if I am of any use. Would need to use your van though... completely clean license, over 25 and very responsible driver (especially so with valuable cargo!!!). Let me know if I can help either here or to [email protected]
  11. Aww bugger. Only just found the thread. Never think to come on here very often. Only here today to post a found dog notice. Would love to know if you're planning on doing this again as we have 4 Staffy/Greyhound/Labradoodle bitches that sound like hormonal wookies when playing... and you should see the other folks veering away in panic. They've been getting a little anti-social of late (ignoring other dogs completely) and I'd like to see them playing with other dogs again. Regularly walking in Graves/Ecclesall Woods/Rivelin/Wadsley Common so happy to venture out anywhere.
  12. She's a fairly chunky little thing with a limp in her back right leg. She is largely white but with a brindle patch over her right eye and is about 6 years old. I do have the name of the owner from Petlog but obviously wouldn't want to be throwing it around on here. Unfortunately the phone numbers they have were never updated.
  13. Nothing listed on Dog Lost and I believe the lady who found the dog tried both the police and the dog pound. Truth be told, though, neither were particularly helpful.
  14. A lovely staffy named 'Holly' was found wandering the outskirts of Meersbrook Park in the early hours of this morning. Kindly taken by a local lady but she was unable to keep her any longer so we took her off her hands and took her to the vets to find out if she had been chipped. She has been, hence knowing her name is 'Holly', but the contact details are out of date and no longer available. She really is a very affectionate dog so must be missed by someone. If she is your dog please leave a PM or e-mail [email protected] and I'll do my best to reunite.

  16. Been reading through some of the old posts dotted around the forum about dogs, dog owners, to lead or not to lead, and the ever present issue of dog mess. As a proud owner of 4 dogs, cleaning up the poo is a serious task but an obviously essential one. To be honest I'm less worried about everybody else than for myself. Knowing the law of sod, I can guarantee that the one poo I don't clean up today will be the one I'll be stepping in tomorrow. But, it is infuriating to go to the trouble of cleaning up after my dogs to find a mountain of poo bags overflowing from the poo bin and gathering at the base. It is hard enough as it is to get everyone to clear up after their dogs without leaving the bins unemptied for days and weeks on end. If the council / parks service need to employ someone happy to do the job then I'll be more than happy to volunteer, getting quite used to the poo now. Ofcourse one does wonder why we bother at all over the summer months as it seems the picnicers and barbecue freaks cannot be bothered to clear up their own rubbish, or worse still find it hilarious to smash up their bottles and leave the shards on the ground. At the end of the day, a little rain and the poo is gone, but that nice square burnt patch of ground is going to be around a lot longer.
  17. Well that got heated very quickly. As someone who uses the park on an almost daily basis to walk the kids and play with the dogs I am surprised that so many people have a problem with it as we never see anybody bothering to use the park. I guess they are all too busy at home sharpening their pencils in readiness for a wordy assault on all those despicable do-badders at Heeley Development Trust. Personally, I think the event is a perfectly sound idea. Don't mind making alternative arrangements for a few days and those working on the site have been extremely friendly and talkative. It might be a commercial venture, but at the end of the day most things are, especially if they actually offer something worth seeing. Pricey it is... but I guess that can't be helped. A few more concessions for the locals might have been nice but two tickets for a tenner is a reasonable offer. What is unfair is the unprovoked and unnecessary attacks on those folks at the Dev Trust, especially from people listing their location as Nether Edge, Heeley's uglier neighbour. I wonder how many of those folks bitching and moaning actually take the time to get involved and to have an input. Probably not many. But then again it is so much easier to throw rotten fruit from the sidelines than it is to actually get involved in improving your own community. As for parking, the day they stop match day parking altogether will be a great day for all of Heeley. Hell, what not just demolish Brammall Lane and sort out a whole heap of anti-social problems in one go.
  18. The first three picture links are the pups at 5 weeks old, the seven after that were taken at 2 weeks old.
  19. Not sure I really want to get involved in what has become a rather heated thread, but I'd like to add one point. There are undoubtedly bad dogs, and some breeds are particularly susceptible to being so, but the bigger problem is bad owners. Mistreatment and teaching aggressive behaviour is the cause of a heck of a lot of the problems we see and one of the reasons why staffies get a bad rep. Not all staffies are evil, and not all staffy owners are bad people, but unfortunately there are more young scrotes with their vicious staffies out there than there are people with labradors or just about any other breed. It strikes me that having a 'hard' looking staffy or pitbull is de rigeur at the moment, unfortunately.

We have available a number of puppies from a beautiful mixed breed litter. Puppies are currently five weeks old so will be ready for collection in 2-3 weeks time. All puppies had an initial check up with the vet at a day old and will have been wormed and received their first set of vaccinations, along with another vet check up, prior to the time of collection. The mother is a golden staffy/lurcher cross with a hint of ridgeback and the father is a white labradoodle. Both dogs are much loved family pets and the mother has been in our care since a 7 week old pup herself. She is an affectionate dog with a passion for the outdoors and enjoys two good long walks everyday. She has been raised around children from birth so has a patient and friendly temperament and adores kids. This is her first (and only!) litter. She has had no health problems thus far and will soon be three years old. Each pup is available for £150, to help cover vets fees, vaccination costs and to ward off timewasters. We ask that a deposit of £50 is provided to secure the dog of your choice and to protect ourselves should we need to relist. We would prefer the pups to be homed with families, so those applicants will be given a priority. A visit must be made to see the pups BEFORE a second visit is made to collect. This will give you a chance to meet the pups and mother and will allow us to see who the pups may be going home with. In addition to this we will expect all potential owners to accept an RSPCA home inspection and to sign a puppy contract outlining our respective responsibilities for the future life of the dog. A copy of this contract can be made available at any time, just ask. We are not professional breeders, but we love our dogs and want to make sure that they get the very best homes possible. We also want to make sure that you get the dog that is right for you. If you have any questions about any of the above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’ll do my best to answer them. We have 2 dogs and 1 bitch available from a litter of seven (we are keeping two ourselves). Each is growing well and appear to have very playful temperaments. Photographs can be viewed at the following addresses… New photographs can be found at... Please e-mail [email protected] to express an interest.
  21. Has this lantern tale been confirmed? Best theory I could come up with was that what with the terror alert and car bombs in Glasgow that flights from up north had been diverted down to Manchester and were in a holding pattern awaiting permission to land at Manchester Airport. Rather than there being 50 or so lights, it was just the same dozen going round in circles (from our point of view they seemed to be circling, rather than fading into oblivion).
