  1. Once reported the police will give you a reference number and any vehicle with your reg no "should" be pulled over. Its a bit of pain but if/when you are pulled over you expalin the situation and give them the reference number which proves you are the legal owner. As mentioned the plates will be used for all sorts of crimes:(
  2. Without seeing the teapot its very difficult to provide any further information. Most manufacturing companies have a system they use which is stamped on the bottom of the items. Every company uses information specific to them in a way they decide it doesnt follow an industry standard. Something ile the following: It's possible the J P is the initials of the person who made the teapot. Broadhead & Co is the company Sheffield is the place it was made (and obviously selling on Sheffield reputation/name) 345 could be the batch number or just the number of teapots in that order 4 will more than likely be the item number if you look on the inside of the teapot lid you should find a number 4 on that too. This is because the lids a re made to fit a specific pot. Again with out looking at the item its not possible to be sure but I would think the teapot is silver plate and not sterling silver. Good luck finding more information on the comapny. Try the Assay office, they have a very comprehensive libary.
  3. All the streets round that area are bad when considering road safety. Myrtle Road The junction with Midhill road at the bottom of Myetle Road My personal fav: The one way part of Slate Street. Too many cars drive the wrong way up the one way part at crazy speeds. Even a coach drove up this week. Its just a matter of time before another serious accident happens.
  4. They have targets to meet, its as simply as that. They have met the targets for the lower price bracket houses but not the higher so the deals on offer or very different. All depends how close it is to the end of the qtr/period. If they need to sell to meet targets and you can exchange quickly you can grab a real bargain.
  5. I was looking at one of the Stantons for the same reason, a big reduction in price. The plot/house was sold but now I thinks its fallen through so might be on offer again. MODs: Any chance of merging my thread into this one. Thanks http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=327117
  6. Roads still closed but you could try to get there from the James cycles end. TBH unless they open the road I dont think you will be allowed. Ive got friends who live in the flats and they cant get near them at the moment. Even tried sneaking in the back way. It might be back to normal in a few hours.
  7. Road still closed (wasnt it obvious enough Mr 252 TM Travel bus who just drove into the road closed sign )
  8. Thanks for the links everyone, nothing more to report at the moment. I will post as soon as the road re-opens. I'm on Bramall Lane so not going anywhere for the moment.
  9. Anyone know whats happening up Bramall lane. The entire area is sealed off so it must be something serious. Cant eve get out of work and obviously the police cant say. Not just police but fire brigade as well so maybe its something at the lane?
  10. Well said. Any other drivers want to try and argue the point that they are not able to read and comply with road signs? Maybe if you turn you hands free connection off and your radio and stop doing your make up you might have time to read the signs and pay full attention to the task of driving.
  11. No, you cant be charged for that alone and its unlikely the police are even bothered because they dont used the bus lanes when they can either. By the way if you dont use the buslanes when you can on a driving test it is a serious fault and you will fail the test.
  12. [For Information Only] Just incase anyone else is in a similar position, here's the web links to some digging around on wimpey homes: I accept that new homes in general have more faults than older property. No builder/company is perfect so i'm researching the overall picture and of course horror stories seem to get more attention than good service/quality stories. Hopefully it is of some use to anyone thinking of buying a home. I'm not too put off by what ive read so far but it would be nice to hear some positive stories. 13. Hi everyone, We were out for a walk at the weekend and ended up looking round the show houses at the Viewpoint development on Myrtle Road. Long story short, we really like one of the houses and have wrangled a deal that is a really great opportunity for us. We live near the bottom of Myrtle Road so know a fair amount about the neighbourhood but dont know anything at all about the top of Mertyle road and Wimpey Homes in particular. A bit of searching around doesnt reveal any horror stories about Wimpey developments but it doesnt hurt to ask around. Ive noticed a few SF'ers live there so.......... What are your opinions both good and bad of the the following: 1. Area/neighbourhood, including the type of neighbours on the "estate"? I assume its mainly owner occupied with a % of rental. Is it family orientated? 2. More important the process of buying (or renting) from Wimpey and the quality of the houses? Any thought would be very much appreciated.
  14. There was some information on this cafe in the Sheffield Telegraph last week: http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/foodguide/Czech-out-Milan39s.3807160.jp
  15. I'm a regular at the comedy nights in Sheffield (and other cities) and they deserve all the success they have had. I can’t fault the Lescar, i can honestly say I’ve never had a bad night yet and I’ve been a LOT of times. Of course you get the usual people who like to chat while the acts are on but that just can’t be avoided. It’s the first time I’ve been to the new venue at the memorial hall and in my opinion it wasn’t as good as the Round House. The atmosphere just wasn’t the same. The comedy was up to the usual standards just the venue lets the night down. We were in a party of 12 sat at a table for Saturdays gig and here was what we/they thought. Positive: Great acts (very funny) Nice looking venue “Finger food” was surprisingly good (considering it’s not supposed to be a 5* meal) Negatives: Right from walking in everything was very strict not very relaxed. Bar staff were verging on useless. Wrong drinks, over charged at almost every visit to the bar, fridge items not re-stocked so ran out. Toilet queue’s were ridiculous, even the men’s. You had to wait for anything between 5-15 min’s (and yes that was the gents as well as the ladies). I would still go back but I’m afraid some of our party were disappointed but at the end of the night it wasn’t a “deal breaker”. Everyone had a great night and I would always recommend going. My only comment that differs from the rest of the party is due to my own fault more than anything. Because I go regularly I know just about all of Toby’s act. Of course I don’t expect a brand new act every visit especially if the vast majority of people haven’t been before but it does let the night down slightly for me. Toby’s at his best if he’s being heckled. Keep up the good work Last Laugh.
  16. I went on Sunday for a late lunch. Its Czech and Slovak food and I have to say it was very good considering its only been open a week. I think they are still finding their feet a little but the service wasnt bad and the food was good. The dumplings were very good. There was 5 of us and we had a mixture of different dish's. Everyone was happy with the quality of the food and it was as authentic as it can be. The prices are around £6-£8 per main dish but the portions are large. Open approx 10am-10pm I think but obviously its best to check times. Would be interesting to hear some other peoples opinion's, both on the cafe and Czech/Slovak food in general. I will be going again I just hope it stays around for a while.
  17. Ive recently (1 month ago) bought a second hand fabia from Bickertons and I have to say that I found the whole process painless (apart from handing over the cash:hihi:). A few months ago we went along to look at the range and after a couple of questions from one of the sales staff were handed the keys to a brand new Fabia (demonstrater) to take for a test drive for and hour or two on our own. When we returned the sales man asked what we thought and we answered honestly and said we like the car but wanted a used car not a new one. They checked their stock recoreds and didnt have one available. No hard sell or anything of the sort thanked us for coming along and said to check back soon if we were still in the market. They know that the brand is good and their way of looking at it is to treat you right and you will return. We went back a few weeks later and test drove another car which we sat down and debated a deal on. Through the course of the negoatiating the sales man (Paul) checked the stock records and personally recommended a car that was coming in as a trade in against a new car. He said the car was in mint condition and worth waiting for. I trusted his judgement and he wasnt wrong. Although we had to wait longer then anticipated they service and the car we received was excellent. The delay wasnt directly their fault but was inconvenient for us. Both the sales man and the sales manager were honest and delivered what they said. I recommend Bickertons over Gordan Lamb (Chesterfield). The deal and service was better at Bickertons. Ive used them in the past and they are slightly more expensive then other local garages but you get what you pay for. To maintain customer service you need a slightly higher margin. Everyone has there own opinions and this is mine based on a recent purchase. I think I could have got the same car £300-£500 cheaper through a private deal but buying from Bickertons gets you 12 months warrenty and 12 months brakedown cover which will cost you more if purchased independently. Give them a try, what have you got to lose? If you dont like what they offer go to Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield.
  18. I was at Silverdale later then the 60's but....... I remember Mr Beeley, really white hair in a crazy style, I dont remember what he taught (but he was the regular detention man). I remember Mr Lee, the music teacher and in the old days he used to smoke his pipe in his little office in the class room. What was the name of geography teacher? I remember her nick name (pinhead). What about Mrs Odale, Home economics.
  19. ullabar: If you can send me a picture of your item or give me a link to something similar on the web I can try and help you with more information. From your description it could be many things and I would need to see it to give you more info. It could well be sterling silver but without more information or looking at the item I cant give you any answers. Nickon: A1 isnt a date stamp/mark. It was a general mark put on cutlery to show it was A1, as in the best. the base metal will nickel siver and then silver plated to a high standard/thickness typically 35 microns. Many different cutlery manufacturers used to put A1 on their cutlery but it didnt always meet a specific industry standard as it was the manufacturers responsibility to support the claim of A1. I work in the cutlery and holloware trade so I know a fair amount and would be happy to try and answer any general questions but keep in mind its very difficult to talk about specific pieces with out seeing them. James dixon & sons were a very well known company based in Sheffield and they went bust a number of times. The company who owns the name now is called British Silverware Ltd who are connected with Thessco and the Solpro group. B.S.L. Also own the name Elkington which was another well known trading name. You can always contact the Cutlers Hall on Church Street in Sheffield for more detailed historical and up-to-date information. During their open days they display many different pieces of silverware and the collection is so big it contains at least one piece of silver for every year since records/assay laws began. I highly recommend a visit to the Cutlers hall which is the larget hall outside of London.
  20. The final song I always remember was Shanice, "I Love Your Smile". Remember when Cairos and Roxy used to give you a bottle of "bubbly" when it was your birthday. Just remembered Metro bat as well, that place used to be packed.
  21. Ah the good old days, Hit Man & Her, classic, ive actually got an old tape from when it was at roxy and i'm on it, in my suit, lol. Even managed to try Clives wig on, ha ha. I remeber cairos and blast-a-ways in the place next door (forgotten the name) and berlins with the spin the wheel thing. Isabellas and kiki's and dont forget Henry's bar with the chandalier. Does anyone remember legens, the downstairs bar at the bottom of fargate, used to walk down the stairs and there was a big video wall or when the foutain bar used to be down stairs (back in the days when the foutain was at the top of fargate. Back then those bars and the Stone House used to be the place to go. I can even remember roxy's before they did it up, when you walked in there was rows of caravan/dinner type seats at the entrance, what a laugh. It was an awful place but I have some great memories
  22. Is the abbey fryer the one in millhouses? Thats my all time worst chip shop, every time it is horrible.
  23. I havent read all the posts but.... Bolehill chippie just to be y local and has remained consistantley good for a long long time. Then my local changed to Two Steps (sharrowvale road) especially their home made pies. Now I go to Man Fridays on Shoreham street, just behind Sheff Utd's Kop. If you havent tried them before, just give them a shot. I'll bet you will go back again, especially the fish. Huge fish and almost completely free of bones. They also do other types of home made food and their chicken curry is fantastic, chilli is good too, including the vegi chilli. They even do scallops, how many chippies can you name that do scallops? I think its run by a greek couple and they are always friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable to good especially when you consider portion size. Also worth a mention is the new chippie right at the end of Abbey Lane neare the spar shop, forgotten its name but they do a very tasty chicken kebab with chips.
  24. Yep, my family too. Potted dog sarnie and a cup of tea.
  25. I use that all the time and usually have to explain it. I travel around a lot and other words I use and people have to ask what i'm talking about are: Shank's Pony = Walking Spice = Sweets Snap = Food kip = Sleep me sen = my slef owt = Anything (as tha got owt? na nowt) not sow bad = I'm alright (you reet? ahh, not sow bad) bottom lips out / got the face on = upset / being mardy Must say I only use these types of words when its a conversation with friends. My dialect changes massively when i'm talking with my grand parents and all the old sayings come out without a second thought. My Grandad stills says (without fail every time I see him): Whats tha know then? Rigor mortise setting in. Rub you down with potted meat. Corporation Wine = Water (from the tap). And many more.
