  1. I went to the Weston Park Museum this week to listen to a talk by Nancy Fielder on the 125th Anniversary of The Star, it was o.k. but as everyone knows the management are trying to steer its readers into reading it on line, something I will never do. Im disgusted with the Star and its contents now, there is very little news, major news events seem to be printed one or two days later but its generally filled with events not news, at one time minor Court Cases were printed in full but even thats fallen by the wayside. The only good thing about the Star now is the RETRO supplement but it goes through me to pay 60p for an events flyer just to get the RETRO.
  2. How can you distinguish "FF" from "VV"
  3. This hanging statue was put in place when the store was new and occupied by gents outfitters HORNES.
  4. Im sorry but thats how SHEFFELD has been pronouced by the real Sheffelders for over a thousand years.
  5. I totally agree with every word, its a travesty that Sheffield has lost some fantastic buildings only to be replaced by mediocre, ugly replacements.
  6. They have a production staff of less 8 and its impossible to produce the volume of cutlery they sell in the factory shop, the Sloan Square shop plus internet sales with just 8 people, they would need a staff of over thirty to produce the volume they sell. On worker there could only manage to produce 120 Paris S/S knives per week and this was all they could put on the shelf finished. Only the plastic rubbish is made on site.
  7. Inkerman is just a name now and it was owned by British Silverware.
  8. A good deal of Arthur Price stuff is imported from Guy DeGrenne in Vir`e in France, the George Butler quality finished when Deeleys bought the firm and took the name to Handsworth. I worked at Butlers for 23 years when the quality was 1st rate.
  9. If you wait a couple of years they will be dug up again and thrown away. Then you can take all you want!
  10. As far as I remember it was seized for non payment of mooring fees.
  11. Right on! just look at the benefits she gets,is it 25 million pounds a year.
  12. The Sheffield Shop stock David Mellor Cutlery but wont admit that they know its imported, which isnt very ethical. The Sheffield Scene stock brilliant cutlery, the knives are sharp and you should always check inside the prongs to make sure they have been grained.
  13. Its not the steel thats imported its over 95% of their cutlery that is imported from Japan & China, the Chinese made Black fibre handled kitchen sets were bought from between $2 & $6 just over four years ago and the only thing Mellors did to them was to etch David Mellor on the knife blades then they were sold for up to £60 each.
  14. You better come and tell the Asylum Seekers who live a few doors away from that they should not be there.
  15. No one should be able to get more money on benefits than people who work and if they choose to have more and more children let them or their families support them, its not down to the benefit system to support them.
  16. With council housing children under eleven were counted as half an adult so two could share a bedroom up to that age after eleven they are classed as adults, so I would have though depending on age just four people or three, more than that and you are overcrowded.
  17. I agree, but the first thing that should happen is to remove the bus stops that are ajacent to it, at the moment the building is used as a litter bin and a grafitti wall by passengers waiting for a bus.
  18. Dont you believe it, hes been there over a year.
  19. £20 extra rent for not using a bedroom YET Sheffield Homes put (dare I say It ) a single male asylum seeker In a three bedroom maisonette. Yes its true. wheres the fairness in that.
  20. They are on sale in the Millenium Gallery, they are with the books.
  21. The siren enabled everyone to check their pocket watches, clocks etc to make sure they were correct, H.L.Brown had the same set up in Doncaster. You have to remember not all clocks & watches were good timekeepers so the one o`clock signal helped. Many factories in Town used this siren as a reminder of the correct time. I cant understand why people cannot work this out for themselves.
