  1. Yeah, something has to be done, we are down to our last 36 games.
  2. Wasn't trying to be a smartass, lol. I was genuinely glad that some posters on here, who were wanting it, will now get a brand new copy at cost, rather than resort to Amazon and the like and get ripped off. Cheers. Incidentally, I went to grab the book to relay the contact information to the OP, now I can't put it back, I am absorbed in it once again
  3. Lol, he wasn't a white slave trader, he didn't go out there fishing for them, they went flocking to him, with stars and $ signs in their eyes. Stop chaining yourself to railings already. Women have more bloody rights than men these days. Your work is done.
  4. Thay's good to know, the OP might have got one by now, as I posted that phone number on Monday or Tuesday see post#6
  5. Are there no Prisons, are there no Workhouses? LOL
  6. In Ontario one statement covers a number of infractions.'i.e " driver impairment" or driving while impaired. This means a police officer can take your license and your keys for 12 hours. You will also have to pay towing fees, and impound charges. Impairment includes smell of alcohol or admission of alcohol consumption, even if you blow under the limit, suspected drug usage, and vision problems. In other words, if a cop suspects you are unsafe to continue your journey , he can make sure that you do not.
  7. That book Sheffieldish was being offered on line at ridiculous prices for the same reasons i.e.out of print, however, I believe the descendants of the author were publishing it again. Not sure that has happened though. That is a way to go, try lobbying the publishers, if enough interest is found they may run another edition. ---------- Post added 26-09-2017 at 23:36 ---------- Sorry to hear that RIP Martin. So many have passed on who were featured in or contributed to that book, since it came out 16 years ago, notably, Joe Cocker, Terry Steeples and recently journeyman bassist and guitarist, local lad Mal Hooley, plus quite a few more, I would guess, considering the time frame the book covers.
  8. You are right, only the courts can impose a ban, but the police can suspend your license and take your keys off you for 12 hours if you have been drinking, even if under the limit. Maybe they can also do this after a failed eye test, that is perhaps what the poster means. Mind you, I am stating what happens in Canada, could be different in the UK.
  9. Before I developed major eye problems I was told by my optometrist that I was borderline, and that meant she did not have to report it to the Ministry of Transport and the information would not be encrypted on my license. I was about 60 ish, I think, at the time. However, the criteria may be a little different in the UK.
  10. There was a row of shops on the second level of what was a parking building at the bottom of Flat St. across from the Penny Black, but the only one that I remember was a fish and chip shop. That was the only one in Sheffield open on Sundays at that time.
  11. Have you tried to contact the authors, John Firminger and Martin Lilleker? If they thought there was enough interest, they maybe could arrange with the publisher to run a new printing .Or contact the publisher Juma @ 44 Wellington St. tel. 0114 272 0195. Unless of course, you have tried all that.
  12. What a shame, a great book about the early music scene in Sheffield. I still have mine in pristine condition along with the CD that came with it. Funny enough it was something a lad's dad said to him about wanting to play in a band, that inspired the book title. That lad was the recently deceased Mal Hooley, RIP.
  13. Did they clean it up before it became Rebels? Lol
  14. What is the location and what was it prior to Roxy?
  15. Don't know it, but the description sounds a lot like the Penthouse in the 70's . Mind you that was lot's of fun, despite the messy environment.
  16. Only part of Hadfields merged with Dunford &Elliot in 1967, about 35% went to Osborn's and became known as Osborn-Hadfieds, including the foundry and all casting related buildings like the fettling and pattern shops, shell moulding . Also two machine shops (2 and 4), a bucket shop and lots of other services. They did share the main entrance, works maintenance and canteens etc. Don't know anything about the Brown Bayley thing in 1973, I had long gone by then.
  17. This what happens in a credit card World, people will pay what they are told and the banks will charge 20 plus percent on top . Modern life epitomises the "live now, pay later" mentality, more so than the old hire purchase of the 50's and 60's ever did.
  18. I think Phil Collins was joined by the lead singer of Earth Wind and Fire on Easy Lover, can't remember the name. Or was it Stevie Wonder?
  19. Yes, it was Mike Rutherford's side project whilst Phil Collins was having solo success. Tony Banks played on the odd track too. The band was essentially Mike and the two Pauls, the other musicians fluctuated quite a bit
  20. Spent all afternoon listening to 80's and early 90's Mike and the Mechanics albums. What a great band they were. Not many bands could boast 2 lead vocalists as good as Paul Carrack and the late Paul Young (RIP).
  21. 39 and 42 quid, I can remember when it was about that in shillings and pence. What the hell do they charge in the Premier League then?
  22. Too much there for such as me to answer. However, I have a comment on your question 8.) The Americans entered WWII not just for the Pearl Habour but because Hitler, foolishly declared war on them soon after the Japanese attack. Had he not done that, the US may have simply concentrated their resources on the war in the Pacific. On the nuclear bomb issue, those events ended a brutal regime and saved, perhaps millions of lives by avoiding prolonging the war and invading Japan with land troops
  23. There were lots of songs better than the one I stated, but it was the sentiment of the song, that best fits my experiences in the 60's
