We must have met each other at some time. I used to go there from 1963 to 1974 I suppose. When were you around. My dad was 'on the committee' at one time, Johnny Proctor was his name, maybe your parents remember him?

Tosh do you remember sitting on that cold corridor when the doors were shut and the only way to see into the concert room was throught the hole in the door? Folks used to complain if the door was opened in winter because there was a draught.

My brother went to Ashleigh School. He left in 1976 because he had a serious accident and the school would not let him go back because of his physical difficulties. His name is Andrew Proctor. Do you remember him?

Does anyonr remember Elaine and Jonny Jackson on the club circuit? I remember Ronnie Dukes and Rikki Lee. They were friends of my mum and dad. I used to enjoy club life but when I met my husband well it wasn't really his thing but we did go and see Bobby Knutt and Elaine and Johnny Jackson at the Dial. My husband actually proposed t me under the clock in the Dial. We had gone to see Bobby Knutt then that was in 1974!

It was rumoured that there was a tunnel/tunnels leading from Queens Towers to Manor Lodge. I don't know how true these rumours were though.

Hello Duffems, yes they were both ruddy cheeked men! It was my grandfather who was Paddy, my grandmother was known as Blossom. My fathers name was John or Johnny. Living in the same yard as my grandparents and the Makinsons I remember someone called White, can't remember the girls name though - must be old age!

I went to Lowfield Primary School and on Mondays we used to go to Heeley Baths. If we were good and had changed quickly, then we could walk the long way round to school and call at Pops' and have a sarsasprilla. Yummy.

Hello everyone from Heeley! My dad was from Heeley, he lived on View Road, opposite Taggy's (best ice cream ever). He lived next door to Bill Makinson who with his father used to sell fruit and vegetables from a horse and cart! My dad sometimes used to help him on a Friday night. They were still using the horse and cart in the late 50's, I can just remember it. The horse's name was Grey Joe (the rhings we remember eh?) My grandfather lived on Biew Road and then had to move because they were pulling the houses down. He moved to Sturge Street. In the early 70's there was a gas expl;osion in the house next door and there house was badly damaged. They then moved to a house further up the street and then in the old folks bungalows on Gleadless Road. My grandad used to write poetry and had it published in CAMRA. He also used to play bowls at Meersbrook Park and play whist and bridge. Does anyone remember him. His name was Leonard Proctor otherwise known as Paddy! :)

We didn't have deportment or elocution lessons then. In 6th Secretarial with Mr Shaw we used to have horse riding lessons for deportment instead. Miss Ainsworth was the deputy then too. Did you Know Hazel Proctor, Jane Geddes or Mary Tyrell? -
