  1. Hmmmmm, after 3 weeks nobody replies. Can only assume that nobody will be effected by this as apart from me all the pensioners reading this will be already on super benefits. If this silence is indicative of the reaction of pensioners nationally ,then Ian Duncan Smith will have no problem in implementing this bill.
  2. Theres a quiet unassuming guy who takes over clubs having a bad run of results and almost immediately they start on winning streaks. He used to play for that other genious at doing that,Brian Clough.I'm talking about Martin O'Neil, but of course like Clough he won't get the England job.
  3. Quiz Night :--- "What is the capital of Chile" . Joan to Eddie :-- "Is it con carne Eddie"
  4. I remember Dave Rawson back in 1968 at the time he looked like Dudley Moore was very carnaby street dressed a real dapper. He played for Pete Fender at the time, and he was always talking about Dave Hopper, god knows why because when he played "shapes of things " by the yardbirds it was better than the original because he managed to make it sound in tune.Just don't know why he didn't make it big time,he seemed to have everything going for him.
  5. Hi I remember going to the Rotherham Baths to see most of the characters mentioned, some dirty, some funny, some outrageous. But the wrestler that astonished me was George Kidd.He was small for a wrestler but every time I saw him he gave a wrestling masterclass to everybody there, making the other wrestlers look very amateurish in comparison.
  6. Yeh I was there, watching Wilco Johnson floating across the floor, with the deadpan face and knockin out the guitar sound with his own unique style
  7. How times change ,could you imagine cigarette machines, chocolate bar and chewing gum dispensers fixed outside shops nowadays as I remember near the Manor top roundabout.Their was certainly more trust or should I say naivety in those days long gone, they wouldn't last an hour in todays criminal society.
  8. The pub opposite was the Tavellers Rest. I remember before Tiffanys it was originally built as a bowling alley.
  9. Sad to hear about Steve I knew him in the early seventies playing with Love Train, always a popular guy.
  10. Hi Johnson Electrics previous to London Road resided on the Ecclesall Road and previous to that in the mid sixties were at Staniforth Road in Darnall, originally being a domestic electrical retailer that cashed in on the guitar group boom.Spent many Saturdays in there drooling at the guitars and amps we couldn't afford.
  11. Sutherland Brothers and Quiver remember "Sailing" "Arms of Mary" etc
  12. Yes I agree some of the organists and drummers were rough ,but conversely some were damn good and a few had that wow factor that gave your ears a real treat. And remember it took some courage to back some artists who threw crumpled pieces of paper at them with the dots of a song that they had never heard a few minutes earlier in the dressing room. Also I remember the type of club official you describe with fond memories but this was tempered with some officials who were best described as lifes gentlemen. It's funny that the W.M.C's which played such a big part in peoples lives in the 60's and 70's is hardly mentioned here, perhaps the majority are not on the internet,(or have died)
  13. On Sheffield road at Templeborough outside the Steel Peech and Tozer plant electric arc furnaces there was a dip in the road and you could not see the other side of the road because of the dust in the air from the furnaces.
  14. Oh dear due to his age Rod's vocal range has been drastically reduced oh for those halcyon days of Maggy May 1973. Due to being from the sixties era I regarded Take That as all boy bands that pinched other peoples material and didn't play instruments, but hey Gary Barlow and company can actually sing good live,I am a convert. As for Ricky, unfortunately he was introduced as the world's greatest comedian, unfortunately he was introducing the prima donna of pop music, unfortunately he could not hide behind a tirade of four letter words that these new wave comedians hide behind.Surely Ricky you should have prepared for the possibility of Elton throwing a tantrum ,you were rooted to the spot like a rabbit in a cars headlights.Part of a comedians repertoire should be something called adlib, two of the greatest exponents of adlib who were on a fraction of your earnings ,Bob Monkhouse and Les Dawson would be turning in their graves.
