  1. I went to Burton Street school for a week in 1961, when my brother was born. I stayed with my grandparents, my grandad was caretaker there. His name was George Brown.
  2. Canon Hall and Canon Hall Farm near Barnsley is a good day out. You can have a guide with you who exlpains about the animals and lets the children handle some of them, there is also a safe adventure playground within the farm area. Big grassy field near the hall itself and a river that you can walk round. A good trip!
  3. I used to work with a woman called Margaret Hurley. She lived at Chapeltown but I don't know where she is now. She did have a daughter called Jane who went to Brantwood Girls School.
  4. A girl I went to King Ecgbert School with went to Pye Bank. She left in 1964and her namew is Barbara Smith if anyone remembers her.
  5. Bob a job week stopped 1. to stop kids from going o strangers houses 2. to stop them being exloited e.g. decorating a room for someone and then being given 5p (bob) for doing it! Yes it did happen!
  6. The scout association do actually celebrate St. George's Day every year, but this is obviously not enough. I asked my local landlady (on St.Patricks day) if they were going to celebrate St. George's day - she didn't even know when it was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Don't remember either of those two. What year did you leave? I left in 1971.
  8. Does anyone remember Mr. White, the spitting French teacher?
  9. I'm not from Hackenthorpe but my Aunt and Uncle were. There name was Herod. My Aunt was a piano teacher and the lived on Cotleigh Crescent. \my cousin Lynne went to Carter Lodge School - in the 60's I suppose that would have been. My great grandmother lived on Rainbow Forge. Anyone remember them?

  11. Jauntyone - unfortunately my grandmother is now dead but she was 92 when she died. I don't think the same sergeant would hve been there then!
  12. Yes you are right they are twins. It was theie younger brother Keith who was the year below me at school. Hazel went to King Ecgberts and when I went there in 1965 Hazel was in the 5th year.
  13. They have also held the Sheffield Show there.

I was at King Ecgberts in the 60's-70' and the houses then were (if I can remember correctly) St. Margaret St.Anne St Hilda St. Cecelia St. Joan There may have been another one but I can't remember (such a long time ago) They could also have changed when we went comp with Abbeydale in 1969 I think it was and thryintroduced BOYS. They probably wouldn't like all the female saints names.
  15. Bornand bred Neil and Hazel Proctor are my second cousins! Neil was in the year above me at school. Did you know Kev Elliott or Barbara Senior?
  16. I used to love Whitsuntide too!! Yes the new clothes and shoes. Did you have the little lacy nylon gloves to go with the bag that you collected your money in? (only the girls) We used to go to Meersbrook Park where my dad used to meet old schoolfriends once a year. Then we would go to the Red Lion pub and sit in the garden at the back and after as a real treat would go to Lin Hongs Chinese resaurant. I used to love it!!! It all changed when they changed the school holidays to Spring Bank which fell slightly different from the religious calendar - I think. Happy memories. p.s. I remember liberty bodices too.
  17. Bornabd bred we must have been there at the same time! Judith Dodd, Janet Hand, Catherine Burton, Albert Hanstock, Michael Evans,Robin Stillings, Tony Wilson, Janet Leather, Robert Adams... ring any bells?
  18. I used to live at Duchess Road School. The back entrance was opposite the old Drill Hall. My grandmother used to wait on in the officers mess there years ago.
  19. Taggy's were opposite my grandparents house on View Road at Heeley but like many of you have said the houses have all been pulled down now and yes it was the best ice-cream!!
  20. My sister-in-law worked there in the 70's early 80's in personnel. Her name is Irene Wilson. She has lived in Majorca for the past 20 years!
  21. Chairboy, I remember a lot of those names. I wads there between 1965 and 1972.
  22. At one time S.U.T. was based on Olive Grove Road, opposite the bus depot.
  23. Yes I went to Lowfield school but a long, long time ago -1962 - 1965!
  24. Yes. What memories! I remember Harry Stocks, Riaf Caldicott and Dave Fell (he was an instructor)
