  1. Just be careful with timings. I once sped down Salt box lane to make sure I passed Hillsborough before final whistle and got a speeding ticket for my troubles. Only ever had 2 in forty years of driving!!!
  2. Ah... Ellesmere Road Canteen. On the positive side , Cottage Pie and beans was very enjoyable , more negatively trying to hide the semolina and Jam behind a curtain while no one was looking. (funny thing is I quite like it now.) (Scott Road 1974 -79)
  3. If it was real irish craic/live music and decent Stout you were after then the only place to be was the Dog and Partridge on Trippet Lane in its Hay day!!(1980's and '90's)
  4. On a related subject it sounds like someone on this thread may know the answer to a question puzzling me. A few weeks ago I was caught in a 24 hour bus lane in Leicester and issued with a fine of 30 pounds through the post. It was 9.05pm on a Friday night. Firstly I didn’t know such a thing as a 24 hr bus lane existed and certainly not outside London. How common are they and what is the justification for the all day/all night label.
  5. Numerous memorable trips to Cineplex to see some classics over the years : Railway Children, Towering Inferno, Elephant Man and Field of Dreams to name 4!!
  6. It probably is just you but what always puzzled me when I used to read the paper is how they always managed to die in alphabetical order.
  7. Absolutely love this tweet from a concerned citizen. "Can the Left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda? My goodness. This isn't about a gun it's about another lunatic." Yes BUT a lunatic with a gun!!!
  8. So FAB 208 in the ‘70s. If anything dates it it had to be the “Peter Stuyvesant” top 20(another world!!). Love the reminiscences about the reception. It really was hit and miss as the satellite whirred round and always when you really liked a song. Used to have the same issue with AFN(American Forces Network) which was one of the few places you could hear the American charts then on a Friday night. Loved my miniature Japanese transistor with its single earpiece headphone.
  9. One word answer is Yes and it would serve us right!!
  10. So October 1972 , I was 11. Popswop magazine was born and issue two had a free iron on DC transfer with the legend "We love you David" on it".I fondly remember getting my Mother to do the honours with the iron. Happy days.
  11. Top Secret life of edgar briggs with a young David Jason.
  12. Perfect tactical displays Home and away against the Potential league champs. I for one dont want to give him up that easily regardless of the final outcome.
  13. Apologies if I am wrong obviously , but isnt the general Unemployment Benefit now called Universal Credit(UC)?
  14. 45 years but not all my life.(and not even somewhere else in Yorkshire either!!) I love this place, the greenery ,the hills, the honesty and all the other things already mentioned but (horror of horrors) not only do I not like HR but I Don't like liquorice either!!
