Who eats oil seed rape?

If you've got a bottle of generic 'vegetable oil', rather than one that names a particular plant like 'sunflower oil', the chances are it's rapeseed oil.

Margarine is as likely to contain palm oil or sunflower oil.

Rapeseed is also made into cooking oil, biodiesel and cattle cake.

Not really a food like peas.

It's definitely not like peas.

I'm just reading the ingredients on the tub of Vitalite spread....Rape seed, sustainable Palm oil and Sunflower oil. I know it's not 'margarine ' as we used to know it, but it's something similar.

I am glad someone else feels this way.

The smell makes me want to throw up and also can give me a headache.

My house is surrounded by fields of it and for a good month of the year I don't open my windows!

Awful stuff

I'd be bothered about this if it wasn't for the fact that world food shortages are caused by growing food to feed to animals rather than directly feeding people.

On several levels meat = death.

There are many hundreds of acres of food grown and wasted because the 'government ' are paying fit but idle scroungers to stay at home rather than getting them to ern their money.  If all the current (no pun) crops were harvested maybe there would be plenty of space to plant "break" crops.

Harvesting all the food grown is a good idea. Then, we should try to eat more of it.

The UK throws away almost 10 million tonnes of food every year.

Rapeseed oil contains very little saturated fat and a reasonably high proportion of monounsaturated fats. It’s also high in vitamin E.

So, it compares favourably to Olive Oil in terms of health benefits.
