The Tory party dub themselves 'The party of low taxation,' and they hold down income tax which benefits the wealthiest  most.  But what they don't mention is all the hidden taxes, which are punitive. We are one of the most heavily taxed countries in Europe. It pushes the people of this country into paying out exorbitant sums in taxes, and getting very little back for their money.
 Share this content via...

blackydog   40 #75 Posted March 17, 2023 It will help to pay for this ****e.  Sheffield City Council has approved the sum of £296,000 to be spent on events celebrating the forthcoming coronation of King Charles III. This includes an allocation of £5,000 to each of the 7 Local Area Committees across the city for local community celebrations. Information about applying for grants and other information (such as applying for road closures for street parties etc.) will be available on the city council website https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/.../south-east-local-area... alternatively you can call South East LAC on 0114 474 3646 or email on at [email protected]
 Share this content via...

That's why a formerly great city has the amenities of a little town.
 Share this content via...
HeHasRisen   3,412 #77 Posted March 17, 2023 Aye, no other local authority is spending money on the Coronation at all. Anywhere. At all.  Not saying it makes it right but the "Sheffield waaah waaah waaah" victim complex is very tiring.
 Share this content via...

Celebrating monarchy isn't in the natural instincts of Sheffield Labour but they feel they have to to avoid backlash for not doing so. That money could be put to much better use, than supporting a giant anachronistic pantomime.
 Share this content via...

Nobody should be allowed any fun at all with Council funding being cut to the bone.  Shut all the parks, libraries, playgrounds and leisure centres! That is nothing like a comparison. If people want to have street parties to show their undying support for another family, let them pay for it out of their own pocket.
