GOLDEN OLDIE Â Â 15 #1 Posted April 25, 2018 Can anyone remember the pop man who used to deliver round Ecclesfield in the 50s and 60s. I think they were based somewhere near Ecclesfield.
 Share this content via...

St Petre   85 #5 Posted April 26, 2018 (edited) They did deliver in the Sheffield area but some of the companies were not Sheffield based. I think Ben Shaw's were from Huddersfield, Hague's , Rotherham (perhaps). and Davenport's were from Birmingham, who I thought did beer-at-home deliveries (awful stuff too.) Birmingham beer in Sheffield ? They had to get a grip of themselves !  ---------- Post added 26-04-2018 at 17:21 ----------  Hague's, Fentiman's?  Fentiman's, that's a name from the past, where were they from ? old tup   30 #8 Posted April 27, 2018 I can't think of anyone who actually made soft drinks in sheffield. Goddard and Sons were soft drinks manufacturers situated on Burnell Road S6,it was my first job after leaving school in 1959!.I worked on the delivery wagons as drivers mate,we served pubs and working mens clubs,it was hard work but I loved it!.Working for them started me off drinking and smoking as in those days after every delivery you were offered either a free pint of beer or ten fags, some days I arrived home for my tea three parts cut, fortunately my mother never noticed as my parents were tee total and if dear old dad found out it was going to be a hard time for me!.The only part of the job I hated was picking up a lorryload of hundredweight bags of sugar for the factory and carrying them up three flights of stairs,a job I couldn,t do nowadays,we collected these from the Wicker Arches when they were connected to the railway system!.
