alchemist 38 #1 Posted January 10, 2018 Virgin Trains have decided to stop selling the Daily Fail on their west coast route http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/virgin-trains-daily-mail-ban-sell-newspapers-beliefs-compatible-richard-branson-a8149786.html Naturally the fail doesnt like this and accuses them of censorship. But is it really? Its just the one route, they are not banning people from having them and so surely its a simple business decision? If it is purely a business decision then why have Virgin Trains said the newspaper was “not compatible” with its “brand and beliefs” ? Perhaps Virgin Trains are waiting to see the size of the fallout before deciding whether to ban the sale of the paper on all routes. Lockdoctor 10 #4 Posted January 10, 2018 Same reason WH SMITH doesn't sell Razzle anymore WH Smith would still be selling Razzle, if it sold as many copies as the Daily Mail does each day.
 Share this content via...

Because they have lots of LGBT people, lots of immigrants and lots of pro-remain business people travelling on the line? Selling or giving away a right wing paper might not sit well with people? Maybe they just couldn’t give it away, or maybe it wasn’t selling. Imagine if they had to buy hundreds of copies a day and few people wanted a copy. Do the maths - this could save Virgin tens of thousands a year. As a pure business decision loads of ways it could happen. Of course the Mail makes it easier with its hardline stance. The Daily Mail is the second biggest selling newspaper in the country so it is most likely in the top two of Virgin Trains sales. You have obviously no business nous because no business would reorder hundreds of copies a day of newspapers that nobody wanted to buy or read. According to the BBC, Virgin say they sell 1 copy per 4 trains, about 70 a day apparently. I suspect they'd prefer to use the space on the trains to stock something more likely to sell. If that figure is true then Virgin Trains should stop selling all newspapers because the sales of rival papers can't be worth bothering about either. Maybe that is exactly what has happened, but Virgin is perhaps using it to have a political dig as well.
 Share this content via...
