redfox
so that's all right then. Arguably, Miller's faux pas is more serious, because it appeared on two of her finance company websites. Surely potential investors have a right to expect the owners of investment companies to ensure that accurate data is posted about their professional qualifications. And what about William Hague's claim to have drunk 14 pints of beer a day when a teenager? It didn't do any harm to his subsequent career (although it would have done to his health if the story had been true). Nigel - the man has been caught out telling porkies and seeking to ingratiate himself locally. He deserves to be criticised and his explanations questioned - never mind what others have done this is about what he has done (or not done) Help us with that Nigel - Why has he lied? altus
so that's all right then Not all right, just not comparable. And what about William Hague's claim to have drunk 14 pints of beer a day when a teenager? It didn't do any harm to his subsequent career (although it would have done to his health if the story had been true). Comparing him to another politician is more appropriate. With Hague it was a one off and he was widely ridiculed about it at the time - which is probably all that would have happened to Nuttall if he'd only claimed he'd been a professional footballer. So far he's lied about having a PHD, being a professional footballer, losing close friends at Hillsborough, serving on a charity board and living in town he's standing in. There's too many for it to be dismissed as a one off inadvertent mistake of the sort lots of politicians make.
gomgeg
If the new UKIP leader is "economical with the actualité", that`s only to be expected. Let`s remember the 350 million pounds a week lie, and all the other exaggerations and distortions in the referendum campaign. Not forgetting the infamous remark from Farage, "if we lose it`s not over !". Then he promptly changed his mind when they actually won by a small margin. Actually, I`d say Paul Nuttall is an ideal fit for UKIP. Whatever next? A politician making up stories. Next he'll probably be saying it was his nephew that did it, then a few weeks later it was his cousin. Whoops sorry, that was you wasn't it Justin? LeMaquis
And what about William Hague's claim to have drunk 14 pints of beer a day when a teenager? It didn't do any harm to his subsequent career...... Really? He said it when he'd just become Tory leader and a few years later they were destroyed again at the 2001 general election forcing Hague to stand down as leader. I any case anyone can drink 14 pints at a push. Not everyone can play professional football, be at Hillsborough and lose friends and be on the board of a charity without any evidence of any of those things. LeMaquis
Nuttall's going to be popular when he goes back to Liverpool. Let's hope he can take it as well as he can dish it out.

LeMaquis
Radio 4 is reporting that 2 UKIP officials on Merseyside have resigned over Nuttall's Hillsborough remarks. They accuse him of crass insensitivity and an unprofessional approach. They also accuse him of being unfit to lead. And that's coming from the chairman of the Liverpool party and the chairman of the Merseyside party.
