Winter tyres - recommendations needed

Recommended Posts

order one from black circles or any other online retailer to be delivered to a local tyre fitter

When I decided to change to 4 season tyres a few years ago I went down the black circles route (and got Hawleys tyres to fit them) as I'd assumed that this would be cheaper and to get the exact tyres I wanted.

However, when I needed to replace one at short notice (due to a cut in the sidewall), I ordered directly through Hawleys as I thought it would be simpler and quicker. It worked out a little cheaper, IIRC, certainly no more, and it was a lot simpler.

I saved about £190 on a set of Avon 4X4 tyres from Black Circles couldn't believe the price so phoned the fitting place direct and priced the same tyres, about £190 more. I got them when an offer and a code was active if I went back now for 1 tyre I think it would be more than a quarter of the original price.

BlackCircles saved me a fair bit of cash on my last set of tyres, was super convenient being able to drop the car off at the tyre garage down the road but still get a decent price on the tyres.

IIRC it was 50% more or something buying the tyres direct from the garage?!?!

I used tyres on the drive found them on Google, yes I could have got my tyres a little bit cheaper else where but they fitted them at work in the pouring rain and all done in 30 minutes for the pair and I got the quality tyres I wanted to put on the car.

I have a set of wheels with tyres on I got from MyTyres although I'm not sure I'd recommend them as they were a PITA about payment. I use blackcircles these days. I swap the tyres myself and store them on a rack I got from lidl in the cellar.

I have continental TS850s but I'm sure you'll get many recommendations. They are good in the snow and slush over snake but these days my Michelin energy savers are all I need for nipping around town. We don't get nearly as much snow here.
