Jonny5
Trying to cling onto traditional jobs (that just so happen to go hand in hand with the employees voting Labour) rather than trying to bring in 20th century jobs where employee voter loyalty is not guaranteed. That's not necessarily being loyal to constituents. RIP anyway Harry Harpham

tzijlstra
It is sad news. The by-election is not going to be interesting at all though. Whoever Labour put up, wins.
Colin Foster
An interesting by election to come. Hardly, they could put a chimpanzee in a red rosette and it would still win. Anyway, my condolences to his family.
Rivelin6
I have met him on many occasions when I was a member of the Labour Party and I can say he was always a genuine, lovely man. That's not two things that spring to mind usually when you are talking of politicians. Thoughts are with his family.
Hairyloon
So is our next MP chosen by the local Labour party, or by central office? Do we get any say in the matter?
andyofborg
So is our next MP chosen by the local Labour party, or by central office? Do we get any say in the matter? your next MP is chosen by the electorate of the constituancy, the various political parties will select candidates in a way which is defined by the party's rules and procedures. Hairyloon
your next MP is chosen by the electorate of the constituancy... As well you know, the next MP will be chosen by the Labour party: the seat is safer than safe even without the sympathy vote.
Hots on
As well you know, the next MP will be chosen by the Labour party: the seat is safer than safe even without the sympathy vote. The voters of that constituency are utter cretins.
Hairyloon
The voters of that constituency are utter cretins. One cannot help but admire the thought and consideration that goes into posts like that one.
