DFS clamping ( just a quick question)

I haven't done much reading on the subject, but I think I read on here the other day that clamping is (or is becoming) illegal?

I ask this because I was walking back to G Casino (where I park my car for uni) and I walked through the car park of the new Wren/DFS car park, and a few cars had flyers on their screens saying - ''Car park for customers only, your vehicle may be clamped'' obviously some people will see it as a free parking space just for nipping in to town. I'll admit, when I was handing in an assignment one day and I parked there for half an hour.
