Nagel
Will pilots be re-deployed? My son's best mate is an RAF Puma pilot, it cost £2million to train him. I only ask because I wonder what you do with an unwanted helicopter pilot. There's lot's of work driving offshore work buses.
tokyojoe
what a fantastic way to fight crime, if money has to be saved why not get rid of some of the top brass.
Litotes
There was less crime before the introduction of police helicopters. There was also less crime before the invention of TV - but this is irrelevant

Stamen
There was also less crime before the invention of TV - but this is irrelevant There was no crime whatsoever before laws were invented! It was people who invented laws who created crime!
Stamen
If the copper chopper was to be taken from Sheffield it would be a sad day for everyone here.
Spacecat
Has anything been done by the public, like a petition to save it. I wouldnt mind paying a little extra council tax every year if thats what can be done. Once upon a time the Sheffield Star would have taken up the fight on behalf of the city to keep the helicopter in South Yorks ...... not a cat in hells chance now 20 minutes emergency response time is ludicrous

phawley
Just think how much more fuel it will use covering a much larger area.
mh01
i think its going to leedsits not going to leeds, west yorks already have their own, if south yorkshire needs a helicopter at anytime then they will have 3 to call upon, 1 from either west yorks, humberside or derbyshire with a minimum of 20mins to get to the scene. sheffield will only have a base for re-fuelling of the helicopters if need be
