BNP Candidate evicted from hustings meeting

Recommended Posts

We need to learn a lesson from our (recent) past. Giving Nick Griffin prime time air time on Question Time exposed him as the seedy, unpleasant, racist that he is. To a massive audience. Subsequently, the BNP has fallen into a spiral of decline which includes them trying to kill each other.

We absolutely should let them speak. Sunlight is a great disinfectant.

Without getting too involved both the audience and the panel on that night were loaded, under those circumstances I don't think he did too bad. And in saying that no I'm not a member of the BNP/EDL.

Just playing devil's advocate... why is it denied to the under 18's then? Surely a bright 16 year old is more suitable to vote than a disinterested 18 year old?

And some at 38 are not fit to vote, don't you find it a little frightening when you see the chanting, ranting 'Earwig Joes' outside football grounds that they could be sat on a jury judging you?

How does it go - a jury is made of 12 men too slow to figure out how to be excused? :-)

True, I was recently called for jury service and informed that I was more than likely going to sit on a murder trial expected to last up to 8 weeks.

I was excused because I would have found it difficult to concentrate due to pain and discomfort following a motoring accident.

Then if it was his meeting, organised by him then he has every right to invite whoever he wants. But he can't pretend it's democratic to exclude parties with which he disagrees.

Remember this-the BNP ejecting a Times journalist from one of their meetings?

Oh and former BNP councillor Richard Barnbrook refusing entry to non whites to a public BNP meeting (after they'd lifted their ban on non whites joining the party)

Why is it democratic to be compelled to hear the views of gatecrashers at events you have paid for and funded?

Next time you host a party or event and a politician turns up will you be granting them free speech in the interests of democracy or would you be evicting them as a gatecrashing bore?

That's a 'one up' for British justice.

Maybe they felt non Whites would be in danger by them attending..is this the new caring side we're seeing? If so it'll be an ongoing policy me thinks.

It looks like a simple civil order offence. The BNP acting like idiots again and causing unnecessary disruption. This report from the Saddleworth News :

http://www.saddleworthnews.com/?p=5418

The report contains this info :

"The organisers’ statement went on: “The BNP candidate asked for and was given tickets to be part of the audience at the event. Unfortunately, the candidate and his supporters organised a ‘sit in’ protest which disrupted the start of the meeting, their behaviour threatening a breach of the peace. Having repeatedly refused polite requests from the organisers to end their ‘sit in’ protest on the platform and return to their seats in the audience, the organisers had no alternative but to ask the police to escort the BNP candidate and his entourage from the building.”

furthermore:

The organisers concluded: “We have to wonder why the BNP picked on a small village community group when as far as we know the Oldham Chronicle received no complaints from them about the candidates meeting they organised in Denshaw last Thursday night. Delph Community Association and Delph Traffic Group are non-political community organisations. No councillor from any political party was involved in the organisation of this event.”

I've always considered the Delph Traffic Group to be an absolute barometer of the state of democracy in this country, as I'm sure all other forum users do as well.
