This seems to have hit the press this morning on at least 3 sites, First South Yorkshire, South Yorkshire Transport and The Star.

Articles below,

First South Yorkshire - http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/yorkhumber/southyorkshire/service_disruptions/?item=6011&show=1

South Yorkshire Transport - http://www.sy-transport.co.uk/news_item_37.htm

The Star - http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/Bus-strikes-could-be-back.5735968.jp

The drivers have rejected the offer that was put to them the other day. "Out of 1,300 drivers eligible to vote, 379 accepted the offer, 514 rejected it and one ballot paper was discounted because it was spoiled. This accounts for 42% of the drivers agreed with the strike."

42% of those that voted.

Ah yes.

Although the people who never returned their ballot papers will not be included in that total, and who knows what they would have thought?

Anyway, why do 42% agree with the strike? If 42% are accepting the offer, surely they don't want a strike, and actually its the other 58% who want to strike because they rejected the offer?

Confusing myself now!

God knows!

I just hope that a deal can be reached regarding this. I'd have thought the deal would have been accepted myself, especially since the union was advising its members to accept it!

The problem with that is that the union ARE the members. One or two officials who do not want to take on the company over these issues may have reccomended acceptance but the membership have not accepted.

Once an offer is made, the union are obliged to put it to the workforce for consideration. The members can listen to the union, but are at liberty to decline the offer.

Remember this is the T&G (albeit by a different name now), so supporting the members that pay their wages is not a high priority.

question i ask the strikes are not just about pay? is it? rumour has it first have employed and dismimissed lots of drivers for slightest silly thing these drivers if they had any descency would come forward and explain their case, not only on here but to the sheffield star, this sort of new wave of managing a job is happening in every workplace.
