Renishaw hall and gardens, these are some of the finest gardens I have seen, one can spend all day on the lawns, walkways over the lakes, among the flower beds, trees, through the woods, it is a paradise for photographers, still and camcorders.

Not been in the house yet, only open at certain times they say it is worth a visit. :):):)

There are some lovely walks and pubs in the Hope Valley. Our two current favourite pubs are The Barrel (nr Bretton) and the Travellers Rest (Brough - halfway between Hathersage and Castleton). Both pubs welcome dogs, which is important for us! Does anyone else have suggestions of good pubs which welcome dogs, in and around Sheffield?

Growing up, we used to go to Brid or Scarborough for summer holidays. Went to Whitby with school one year, which was fun, and the history was good!

Castleton's good for the caverns, and the Peaks are good for the well-needed fresh air...tho' we usually end up in Castleton or Bakewell!

Oh, and Haworth and Holmfirth are within easy reach. There's a bus that goes to one that you can use a travel master to get to, can't remember which one it is tho ;(

A gentle ride along the Tissington trail is always a nice very level ride during summer. You can hire bikes from Ashbourne and then get onto the trail. Nice for kids too as its away from the traffic once your on it.

Also, Clumber Park. Nice walks, cycle hire with trailers for young kids. Nice large area to walk, relax etc. Gets very busy at weekends in high summer though!
