Mitchell Road /Abbey Lane Jct

Recommended Posts

Very Simple

The residents of the mitchel road area are concerned that since the traffic lights were installed at the junction of Abbey Lane & Meadowhead/Chesterfield Road the roads round mitchel have become a rat run. The roads are narrow due to parked cars and speeding traffic is causing problems especialy with parked cars and children crossing the roads, threfore a 1 way system as been proposed

As I said earlier this as been the subejct of various threads and its the locals who have sujested this remember streetforce are only the contractor it is the highway authroity ie SMDC who do the planning consultation etc

Putting double yellow lines at both sides of the road would resrict the local residents from parking so was not popular

With referance to the current works if you look at them it is not like marshall road as that is closed to all but cycles.

Looking at mitchell road there are two illumianted signs ready for street signs the way they are mounted it looks as though one is a no entry sign the other a give way or stop sign.

There is also a new island marked which would tie in with the above signage

personally i think it is bobbins. i know a fella who lives on there and apparantly the residents were asked if they wanted this and turned it down so not sure the change in heart. I bet those residents that do complain about it also use the likes of Fraser rd to get down to the shops etc.

Yep it is a rat run but now it means all those on greenhill rd and harbord rd are forced into the woodseats traffic or finding alternative routes.

So does that mean they are going to block off the left to bromwich rd just after the abbey pub? What about blocking Linden Avenue or the one just after Marshall Rd with the funeral directors? So basically it'll just push the problem to those that live on moor view rd.

This area's becoming a mess. The problem is certainly the traffic lights at the Meadowhead junction (why no left filter here to turn left to Woodseats ?) Instead you need to wait for traffic turning right into Abbey lane from Woodseats to finish before the lights go to green.....

Closing Mitchell Road will move the problem on, as did closing Marshall Road. The next entry into the rat run becomes Camping Lane which people are already using as congestion becomes worse at the end of Abbey Lane.

A very poor scheme.

Totally agree, it is just moving the problem to a road further down.

Why didn't they make it one way from Bromwich to Abbey Lane? Surely that would have been the cheaper option, no kerb altering just signage.

I was chatting with someone who lives on mitchell rd near the abbey lane junction and they never even had a letter to tell them about the work. They aren't happy as it means they can't turn into mitchell rd from abbey lane just to get home.

As for the congestion - a lot of problems are caused by people parking on the corners for the garage and the cafe If they made these double yellows for say 10 metres into mitchell rd either side and enforced it then the congestion in and out of mitchell rd would not get as bad (not that it is that bad anyhow).
