  1. A bit of a strange one this but bear with me. I've just got back from a holiday in Kassiopi, Corfu. On our last night, Spiros, the manager of our favourite bar, pulled us to one side and asked if we knew the club Josephines in Sheffield. Apparently he used to work with a lad he wouldn't mind getting back in touch with and the last he heard, he was working as a doorman at Josephines - evidently, it's been a while. So if you are Brian, or indeed know a Brian, who used to work at Emily's Bar and Zanzibars in Kassiopi, Corfu who then went on to be a doorman at Josephines... Spiros at the Number 7 Bar would like to get back in touch. If this is you, please PM/email me at [email protected] and I have contact details Cheers. EDIT: Thanks to all the messages, Brian has now been tracked down
  2. Aye... second that one. Very relevant for the flooding of the other week!
  3. Can see the flames now! http://www.magicrambo.com/pages/shefwebcam.htm
  4. Free The Fixtures... This is a campaign that, as an independent fanzine owner myself, I am only too happy to support and feel that it is something most football fans would agree with. We have been subjected to Football DataCo's threatening emails before so have a read of the below, and if you don't agree with what is being done, please sign the petition.

  6. It's not too far out of the way I don't think... can't remember exactly
  7. Anywho after all this arguing, if anyone is interested in looking at some pictures and a video from today... have a looky HERE.
  8. There's some pictures and a video from today HERE
  9. You could always take the shirt to Decathlon... they print shirts and you could pick whether you wanted PL or Championship letters
  10. Nothing posted on the official sites as yet but...
  11. I had a birthday card arrive two days late last week... obligatory strip of sellotape sealing the envelope back to again. Thing is, my Uncle who posted it is a postie and wisely sent a cheque. He told the story of a lady who worked in the sorting room who got caught opening post a few weeks/months before she was due to take her retirement. Quite rightly, her Royal Mail pension was revoked.
  12. Phew... was a bit warm this morning but walked it in 50 minutes. I've done Race for Life since it started in Concorde Park and it's nice to see it's grown so much. What got me though... why were there so many women watching? Could they not join in too?
  13. The people who said I spoke "funny" came from Gleadless Valley... so yes, they obviously thought I spoke differently to them because I didn't come from Gleadless Valley. Not too hard to grasp really is it? I haven't got a clue why you're getting so wound up.
  14. Erm... right. So I say I got picked on because I talked differently... and you seem to think that it was justified? On second thoughts, don't send your kids to Newfield. They have to put up with kids who have an antagonistic attitude like this. The only people making judgements about people is you B133L3... bit sad really.
  15. And this was the attitude I received a lot at school
  16. Never said there was, they seemed to think there was something strange about me though. I was quite bemused to say the least when asked "why do you talk differently?" (actually "why d'ya talk funneh?") Turns out a couple of miles can make a big difference between whether you say bockle or bottle, babby or baby, hospickle or hospital
  17. I've had my say on Newfield before... I too heard horrible stories about the place whilst still in Mundella. However, I did the full five year stint and came out pretty alright (left in 2002). I didn't get any grades lower than a B, went on to college and now at Uni. I must say though, I think in the main, it was the older teachers that kept that place running - Mr Cockburn, Mr Bird, Mr Poore (you boy!), Mr Lawrence... and dare I say it, Mr Price (I've got my pen). I think all of these teachers have now left for pastures new or retired. I was picked on for "talking posh" because I didn't come from Gleadless Valley- just made me be a stronger person and learn to stick up for myself. It certainly didn't get in the way of what I managed to achieve there. As for bullying policy... woe betide anyone who crossed Mrs Chapman our form-teacher. A lovely mild-mannered Welsh lady who could turn into a dragon if pushed - RIP Mrs Chapman - you're still a legend to all those who were in your form! My brother is still at Newfield and he's just doing his GCSEs this summer. He's been predicted pretty decent grades too. I don't think you can guarantee that any school will be problem-free, I think a lot of the time, you get out of school what you put in.
  18. I assume the OP doesn't mind their feline neighbours so much when they're keeping rats and mice away?
  19. Our cat had a lovely habit of catching blue tits and hiding them in my brother's shoes. She already had a collar with a bell so we added another bell. We can hear her coming a mile off... but she's just trained herself to be more stealthy when hunting. Anyway, I've had a word and she says if I start nagging, she'll put blue tits in my shoes
  20. That's what we asked.. were told they were long gone when we got in at 10pm on Friday. We got VIP tickets through work and had no problems getting in. Went to queue in the main room (Decuba) for a drink and we waited.. and waited.. and waited. Twenty minutes in total to get served two warm bottles at £3.50 each! The Strongbow and Fosters on tap were long gone by 10pm.. just teething trouble I hope. Then my mates (chimneys both of them) went to ask where they could get a cigarette but were told they couldn't have a drink as they smoked as they'd have to go outside and couldn't take the bottles with them. Anyway, joined another crowd and spent the rest of the night in Mink. It was packed but good fun but it was definitely the usual Kingdom crowd. If you're looking for cheap and cheerful, avoid the bar. If someone else is buying and you're up for a laugh, I don't think you can go too wrong. They're going to have to change things if they want to become more "classy" though!
  21. You already know I'm going Robster
  22. Just because he walks a bit cocky and has confidence in himself doesn't make him arrogant. I think you'll find most professional footballers aren't worth the time of day as people, but they need that bit of self-confidence to believe that they can make a real career out of doing something most people just do for fun. Makes me laugh when the Wednesday/other fans come on here throwing their weight around and then get upset when they get a bit of it back. If you don't want to read about Sheffield United and you can't take the banter, don't come on here in the first place and comment Easy as that really... just like the Wednesday fans at my work - more concerned about United's results than their own!
  23. Erm... no. It's the ones old enough to drink and go in the pub. Hence the reason I said they went in the Sportsman. By younger I meant they were in the first 25 years of their life... as opposed to the older Blades who are 80+ and still going strong.
  24. You know it's the truth Robster... he didn't look too impressed when Steve was shouting "ooo are ya" through his car window. Me and Fox went for the more traditional "We all hate Leeds scum". He can afford a swizzy Merc though, so times aren't too hard on him.
  25. Living in the area all my life, I have to say it is predominantly red and white. In fact, I only know one Wednesday fan from the area who went through school and his main argument at the time seemed to be "yeah but we're Premiership innit". There used to be mass exoduses from last lessons at Newfield when we were playing an important away match on a Tuesday night. As for the Sportsman being a Wednesday pub... there's new owners now and a lot of the younger Blades I know drink in there. To sell your badges, I think you'd have to go around Hillsborough on a match day or ebay? Not sure they would be very well received in most of the pubs in the area
