  1. This had to be the meeting point for most Sheffield groups in the sixties, Dave Berry & the Cruisers, The Bitter Suite, Glyn Barry, Joe Cocker who occasionally sang with the Bitter suite. It was a great atmosphere but difficult getting in if the groups were there but well worth it...A
  2. J Detailing, that was my point really. most of the places we've visited have beautiful architecture, places of history (Liverpool was great for this), and to be honest it wasn't that expensive, I'm an OAP £6.00, my son is disabled £6.00. there is usually about 12 stops, and you can go round and round all day if you want. There is a guide who gives all the details about each place. Now where in Sheffield City center can we see such beautiful buildings and hear about its history, I'm struggling to think of any really.....
  3. Lazarus, I think you've got it, it was in the days when we used to go to the seaside for the day with the clubs, although it was probably more like 1950, I have always wondered if it was me having a senior moment as I've never met anyone who can remember it, but I can clearly see my granddad passing me a dish of ice cream, Thank you for helping me sort out a very old memory...A
  4. This question only applies to older members really, does anyone remember a large boat on Cleethorpes sands. it would be about sixty years ago and it was turned into a cafe?
  5. This year we haven't had a holiday as such, instead we've had a couple of days here and there eg Liverpool, Stratford on Avon, , York, Harrogate and Lincoln and each of these places have a tour bus. Each tour lasts about an hour and usually visits 10 or 11 stops, there is usually a person giving details of each stop, pointing out the architecture and the history of each place . We have thoroughly enjoyed or visits, but a thought crossed my mind, if you was to start a tour bus business in Sheffield, where would you take visitors showing the history and architecture in Sheffield? ---------- Post added 21-08-2014 at 13:40 ---------- Yes, I more or less thought the same lol.....A
  6. Before you answer this, I want you to think about a very delicate situation. I have a Shih Tsu puppy who is 9 month old, from getting him he has always nipped, and as he's grown he sometimes still does only its a bit harder. The last month he has changed, he's quietened down and he hasn't nipped so much, so I thought we were winning which I was delighted with. Now the complication arises as its my sons dog, my son being 46 with Aspergers and a learning disability and he worships this dog. Well today I was sat in my computer and he jumped up and started biting the wires, I tried to get him down when he bite me, I tried to know him down and I'm not sure if this was another bite or was it a scratch, but I have 3 scratches all of which are bleeding about five inches long. Now obviously I am very scared that he might do this to my granddaughter who is also 9 months old, so I am asking for your thoughts on this matter please. Thank-you A.
  7. I did hear that it was opening at the old Abbeydale Cinema, seems possible if the snooker club is closing....
  8. Hello Roger Harrison, I remember you ,I used to live "up steps" above your Yard.I also remember all those names The Neaths lived at the bottom of Carter Road next to the beer off, as I remember Mrs Neath was something to do with the British Legion and if ever we had a "Do" we always had to go and ask Mrs Neath if we could borrow her Tea Urn! Lovely to hear from You...A. ---------- Post added 21-05-2014 at 15:00 ---------- Hi Ken, I remember Miss Tesh very well, she was lovely someone once told me she lived on Queen Victoria Road at Bradway and i always think about her even to this day,all those teachers names are familiar to me....A
  9. Hello, I'm very interested to hear about the group, I have had COPD for quite a few years now, and as time has gone on it has become worse.I have always been told it is due to smoking, and I'll hold my hands up as I used to smoke, but been packed up 25years , but to be fair I'd never heard of such a disease, we all know about cancer but COPD? never. I'd be interested to know more about the group. Thankyou
  10. I very rarely come on here anymore for the very reason the way this post has gone. I know you might not know Teeny, and you certainly don't know me, but I have known Tina over thirty years and I only wish 1% of this forum was as genuine as she is. She has explained what she does and it can all be verified should you take the trouble, instead of knocking her, for Gods sake give her some credit for what she does and believes in,she saves every penny she can all year to pay for her flights to Zimbabwe, she gives her annual holidays up to do what she does, she can't go with her partner even though they want too because they can't save up enough for two flight tickets so she goes alone, well she's more bottle than most on here, a woman on her own in her forties!! So if you don't have anything which she knows those children need thats fine, if you have, please check it out as she said, but please stop all this back biting to one of your own forum members and if you can;t say anything good then please keep your mouth shut!!
  11. Thankyou Angel 22, he is and he gets loads of cuddles, and he's filled a huge hole in our lives , I was desperate to find a home for him while we are away,I couldn't take him back to the breeder, but I have found a kennel who is willing to take him and she's even said she will take him into the house as he is so little which is a double bonus. Thankyou those who offered help...A
  12. Nothing prepares you for this, its so hard, yet you know you must, if you have some warning its maybe alittle easier, if they are old its more understandable, three weeks ago we went through the same, with no warning whatever, Quincy was six years old, cancer? yes a very aggressive one too, We hade no choice he belonged to my autistic son, how do you explain it? You can only come to terms with this knowing you've done the right thing and that she's no longer suffering. Thinking of you & best wishes A.
  13. 1149 You can uncross your fingers now and please don't worry about my little one being locked in his crate, contrary to the posts that seem to think my pup is suffering in his crate, this method of training a pup is highly recommended as pups like a den where they can spend time alone, when they want. As a matter of fact this poor little one is layed on the shelf on my coffee table on his back with all four paws in the air having just eaten his tea, he is surrounded by pets toys where he's been playing all afternoon. I recently had to have my other pet dog put to sleep to stop him suffering as he had cancer on his face and he was six years old which is no age for a dog but no ammount of money could cure him. I am a fit lady of seventy years old and have had dogs all my life, and I've probably forgotten more that you'll ever know...... Ps as a matter of interest just what do you do with your dog apart from playing, feeding, weeing? Don't say walking though because I can't do that yet for another week when he is clear after his injections.
  14. They go to a lot of trouble to do there window display over Christmas , and its all for our local Charity, how can anyone do this? The coat was so lovely anyone would notice someone wearing it,SO BRING IT BACK !!!!!, just put it in a bag and tell them you've found it and your concience will be clear, providing of cause you have a concience that is?
  15. My dear friend was going to look after our puppy over Christmas and New Year and her dog has developed kennel cough, can anyone suggest anywhere that will take a tiny Shih Tzu, he's almost paper trained and he lives in his cage, only taken out for feeding, playing, and putting on paper to wee. Please contact me ASAP if anyone knows. Thankyou A.
  16. Marsdens milk bar was opposite the Peace gardens, it was called "The Teenage Tavern", it must have been one of the first places teenagers could go buy a drink and listen to records, lots of romances started there to lol. it took me months to have the guts to walk in, although I eventually did.I remember the twins Pat & Mick Moore I thing they came from the Wybourn, they seemed very tough in those days, don't know what happened to them though....
  17. Oh dear, I'm begnning to feel very strange about all this, because no one askes me for money, do I look so poor that they think they have more than me so why bother? Do I look so scary that they would be afraid to approach me? Even the ladies with the clipboards never stop me, Isnt my opinion worth asking for, or am I completely invisable? That could be the case because when I stand in the queue of the Deli at Morrisons, everyone one walks past me?
  18. I wish good luck to the new owners, I hope is agreat success, but its sad to know that Leslie Cass has now gone. We bought my wedding ring there in 1966, it was/ is 9 ct gold about half an inch wide, its still on my finger but my husband is no longer with me. it was £9.00 well spent I think ...

My Husband Tony Crookes used to drive a black cab initially for Burton Street garage, then bought his own, Very happy times unfortunatly Tony died last year.....
  22. I love the Post office building, I love the windows and the doors, one could make anything as beautiful in this day and age, so why can't it be made into Luxury apartments, obviously it would all need rebuilding but we should keep the front fascade just as they did with the old Locarno....A
  23. "Poor show" at the Chantry!! Come on, be it the right way round or not, I've never seen a flag so big! I thought it was a bedcover! Its nice to see someone even bothering,I haven't heard of anything happening in Sheffield ( if I'm wrong please let me know whats happenning and where ) Anyway good on you all at the Chantry,it makes me feel proud anyway..A
  24. You are perfectly right Duffems, although both of the teachers I mention ,we don't remember them for their good points, we have never forgotten them for all their bad points, but what Miss Howard taught me, excluding the comb lol I am very grateful, I can cook, clean, sew, which is all down to her, but I still keep my nails long and smile when I think of what she did, although at the time I hated her!!
