  6. I’m sorry to se such a beautiful building going to rack and ruin much the same as the Marquess of Granby. I have other reasons to remember The Rising Sun though, my mum went into service there aged 12 years old, she’d never been away from home or her family before and she was frightened to death. She had one afternoon off a week, and she had to walk most of the way back home unless she got a lift on a cart. The owners at that time had a son a bit older than my mum, and his main ambition was to get these young nieve girls into trouble.my mum was carrying a tray ful of Crystal glasses to put them away, when he sneaked up behind her and got hold of her,she then dropped the whole lot of glasses and most of them broke, they were expected to pay for any damage out of their wages,so she knew she would never be able to leave,so she asked this toerag where the outside toilet was, thinking he was on to a good thing he took her down the garden to show her,she immediately pushed him in the toilet and locked it.she then went and got her scarf and left. When she was alive we could never pass it without saying I wonder if he’s still there ? LolI think her wage was 2shillings a week

  10. I went to see this show on Wednesday and I take the ladies point about the artists not turning up,but my grouse wasn’t that at all,the play was terrible and so were the “ artists” they could have gone to the job Center, picked twenty women assorted ages and sizes, and they could have done a better job, as for Freddie Flintoff lol no one can blame him for trying something different,he was certainly no worse than the other artist, and God loves a tryer!
  11. Does anyone know if there’s been an accident at the top of Blackstock Road tonight? There has been an ambulance and police car there ages.
  12. When my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, never having been on any Benifit before,we found the Parkinson’s disease society very helpful, they sent a guy out who explained everything to us and he also filled in the paperwork on our behalf so try them.
  13. When I've been searching for information, I usually turn to the Sheffield Forum, and I make no exception in doing so again. I'm making enquiry's about what High Green is like now to live in, there are plenty of previous posts, but they are all a little dated now, I do know the area has changed recently so would you live there? I'm not from the area at all so all help would be valued. Thank you. A.
  14. I do ! It was the place to be for teenagers back then, it was downstairs from the milk bar, and I had to pluck up courage for weeks before I dare go in. I remember Pat and Mick Moore the twins from Wybourn, not sure what happened to any of them though... ---------- Post added 22-02-2015 at 18:49 ---------- Hi Thorpy, yes the Jester was good although, the owners wouldn't stand any nonsense, great crowd here. Then after 9 o'clock down onto Abbeydale Road to the Flamingo, atmosphere not as good here though
  15. Try St Lukes on Woodseats they usually have loads...

  17. Yes I think where the Pyramid carpet shop is, is what used to be crown engineering, and i think the co-op was where the Photographers is now .Anymore thoughts, and do you remember the little market that was near the newsagents ?
  18. I'm so sorry to hear this, as usually its such good area.I must admit over the last two months we have had hardly any street lighting, I'm fed up complaining to the council who have now told me its N powers fault. Apart from this being a burglers paradise I think its very dangerous for anyone even walking about as you can't see anything. It doesn't help you I know but I hope the thieving scumbags get caught....A
  19. Peak vets without a doubt, and if you're getting a new puppy you'll be able to take him to their puppy party, providing of course he's had his injections. The puppy party works, apart from teaching you things a puppy needs, it teaches the dog not to be scared of the vets, and of course he meets other dogs. There is no charge for this service.
  20. Like most on here I used to go "in the Gods " and can remember seeing Shirley Bassey for the first time, she had on a skin tight bright red sequinned dress, she looked and sounded wonderful......A
  21. Of course, the dog belongs to my son who is autistic, and quite honestly he is scared of it,I am also concerned that he will nip?bite my new granddaughter. ...A
  22. I am looking to give our Shih Tzu a new home. he is one year old, housetrained, fully inoculated, loves walking. The problem is that he doesn't like too much fussing and he gets quite stroppy, he nips and growls .I think with the right owner he will stop this, he needs someone who will be top dog.! Any advice is welcome. Thank you A
  23. This had to be the meeting point for most Sheffield groups in the sixties, Dave Berry & the Cruisers, The Bitter Suite, Glyn Barry, Joe Cocker who occasionally sang with the Bitter suite. It was a great atmosphere but difficult getting in if the groups were there but well worth it...A
  24. J Detailing, that was my point really. most of the places we've visited have beautiful architecture, places of history (Liverpool was great for this), and to be honest it wasn't that expensive, I'm an OAP £6.00, my son is disabled £6.00. there is usually about 12 stops, and you can go round and round all day if you want. There is a guide who gives all the details about each place. Now where in Sheffield City center can we see such beautiful buildings and hear about its history, I'm struggling to think of any really.....
  25. Lazarus, I think you've got it, it was in the days when we used to go to the seaside for the day with the clubs, although it was probably more like 1950, I have always wondered if it was me having a senior moment as I've never met anyone who can remember it, but I can clearly see my granddad passing me a dish of ice cream, Thank you for helping me sort out a very old memory...A
