  1. I'm looking for a sharer for one of my horses, to stay at mine in Hellaby, S66. He's a 15.2hh, 14yo gelding. Good to do in most ways but can show his French side on occasions, such as when loading into a trailer or lorry. Good to ride and will hack out alone and in company, and although he's not well schooled he is responsive and will pop a jump. I'm looking for someone who already knows how to ride and the basics of horse care, to commit to a minimum of 3 days per week. £30 a week to cover his costs.
  2. Help SPANA help working animals in less well off countries by joining their Big Kit for Vet Kit fundraiser. https://spana.org/knit
  3. Hi, I've a raised coop to fit up to 10 large hens. It's not been used in a while so could do with a new perch and a lick of wood preserver, and a new hinge for the hen door. It's home made by yours truly so is sturdy, and has a large pull out base. It's approximately 5x3foot base and about 7foot high with a good 2foot underneath for hens to shelter, or you could box it to create storage. Inbox me if you want a picture.
  4. most 12 year olds would be too big for a 12.2hh. you might be better looking at 13.2-14.2hh ponies, Puddinburner.
  5. Springfield vets are also offering free chipping for dogs at any of their branches.

  9. Chez, it's been a while since I kept hens. Maybe it was baytril I was thinking of with regards to withdrawal period. Either way it's prudent to check before administering.
  10. Maybe try running it through a charcoal filter first?

  12. They probably wouldn't be bothered by a dog... they won't know what one is. Most dogs learn to avoid hens after a peck or two. Aubiose is fine for hens. Most vets get minimal training but some take further studies, you can find this info on the MRCVS website. I use Springfield at Rotherham, Moorgate for my hens. Wormers can be bought online, but be aware of the withdrawal periods for Flubenvet and the likes when eating the eggs. I used to worm in the winter when they dropped off laying. You can feed diatom year round to cover most worms but you'll need Flubenvet to get the gapeworm. You can also send for fecal egg counts from Wesgate Labs or Retford Poultry. Heeley City Farm do a course, but Starting with Hens by Katie Thear will tell you most basic information. Personally I wouldn't use an eglu as I think they are far too small. If you can afford one of them, then the money is better spent on much bigger run space.
  13. We've just started making our own too. It's great fun and nice to know it's not just "lips and arseholes" (as my friend calls it) that's in them. We use the meat from our homereared animals, but will use supermarket lean mince if needed to bulk it out or if we haven't got time to grind our own. It's a learning curve!!
  14. Are you talking about the small animals, or the large & farm animals too?
  15. Lots of horse muck available, very little hay/ straw in it. Bring your own bags, I'll help fill them. Worms having a field day with it all!! S66 area, just off junc 1 M18. 07724 758821 text please.
  16. I have two teeswater and four kerry hill fleeces for sale. Anyone interested?
  17. you can give hens metacam, although it's not licenced for them. could she have scaly leg mite? they can quite often just strain themselves and it usually gets better over a couple of days. but they can also get arthritis, so try adding corn oil to the diet.
  18. Thanks Nox, I'll give them a shout. Can you inbox me a name and number please?
  19. yep, realising a dream, albeit on a small scale.
