  1. My son did something like this a few months ago, he is doing GCSE Business Studies and was told to go around / or telephone different sports shops asking the staff various questions, I wasn't too keen on the idea and we figured that the shop staff might not even be able to answer most of the questions as they were more to do with management and purchasing, we improvised in the end and did a bit of role play lol. I agree with you though, children shouldn't be put in any position whereby they may be seen to be causing a nuisance or potentially on the receiving end of an ear bashing.
  2. Hi guys Does anyone know of any driving schools requiring experienced ADI's in the Sheffield area? Please PM me if you do Thanks for your time

  4. According to the radio there was an accident involving 3 cars earlier this morning, all traffic is / was being diverted through Worsborough village.
  5. I thought it was just me, i'm glad i'm not imagining it! I'm in Chapeltown and i've noticed the scale in my kettle and the bleachy taste, I drink loads of water and can't bear the taste of it straight from the tap any more. Its only been really noticeable for the past 6 months or so, never had a problem before.
  6. Last year they stopped in the Acorn car park, they were handing out selection boxes and the kids got to have a sit in the sleigh and stroke the reindeer, they stop on Chapel Road aswell.
  7. https://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=312009472148553 Windmill Hill Primary School in Chapeltown are holding a Christmas market on the 26th of Nov, just before school broke up for half term they were asking if anyone was interested in having a stall, worth asking if you are interested,
  8. Surely all scooters (and bicycles) should have some sort of identification tag / number plate. I once saw an elderly lady hit from behind by someone on a mobility scooter who was travelling down the pavement, it wasn't a hard knock but the elderly lady was knocked off her feet, the fool on the scooter didn't even attempt to stop.
  9. Chapeltown baths has a sauna and a swimming pool, don't think it has a steam room though, no membership needed, pay as you go.
  10. Take a look at Vistaprint, I created a web page for my dad, cost £3.60 a month, dead basic and easy to set up.
  11. I think morrisons and the place on the castle market sell them but don't know what its called, i go to a place called Angel cakes for all my supplies but its in Mexborough - http://angelcakes1.com/aboutus.html
  12. According to a friend who works in Asda, its definately not shutting down, some of their staff are going to the new Asda and have recruited new staff to replace them, the GT is going to be an opticians and ladysave will be a chemist. However......some staff are getting fed up of being asked whether or not its closing and are replying 'yes, its being turned into flats'.
  13. http://www.ecclesfield-school.com/ link to ecclesfield comp's website, at present school is open on the 30th but this could change.
  14. We too have had this problem, nothing decent left, only the rubbish nobody else wants. I've played hell but it falls on deaf ears unfortunately. The school my daughter attends rotates who goes first now so that each year gets first dibs at the good stuff.. Surely it would be more cost effective to implement some kind of pre-ordering so that the kitchen knows roughly how many people will be choosing this that or the other = less waste, more happy full up tummies.
  15. i know its not sheffield but search 'angel cakes', they have a shop in mexborough and are the cheapest i've found for most items, they make cakes aswell as sell all the stuff you need to make them yourself, hobbycraft is a rip off, some of their items are double the price of items in angel cakes, my friend uses the shop at the castle market and says its really good. Theres another shop near angel cakes, its literally a 2 minute drive but its classed as swinton, carols celebration cakes, carol is lovely and also sells everything you need aswell as making cakes and giving lessons http://www.carolscelebrationcakes.com/80650/info.php?p=9 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Angel-Cakes-Mexborough/114792718556126?sk=wall#!/pages/Angel-Cakes-Mexborough/114792718556126?sk=info
  16. https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Celebrations-Balloons-Sheffield/160195487346687 someone i used to go to school with set this company up, wonder if she might be able to help you
  17. I agree 100%, we do need to stick together and not have the 'i'm not bothered as long as they don't come here' attitude that some people i've come across have, this is our area where our friends and loved ones live and if we don't look after our own then nobody else will. I know of 2 houses on my road that were targeted on friday and yesterday and have been told of others in the vicinity and a bit further afield. Every bit of information does count, you might not think it relevant but every detail counts.
  18. Please be aware that 2 distraction burglaries have occured within the past few days in chapeltown, the men who pretend to be from the water board distract the owner and one of them enters the house and steals items whilst the other keeps the occupant busy, i've also been told that this happened in high green last week but have no further details. Please be on your guard and DO NOT let anyone enter your home, if you leave the house even momentarily, please lock the door. It appears that elderly and vunerable people are being targeted, someone is obviously watching the houses to know who is an easy target or home alone.
  19. when the new blue box was introduced, our blue bin was collected by one truck followed by another truck collecting the blue box, now only 1 truck comes but it has 2 seperate compartments for emptying the box and bin into, i wonder if this is what your friends have seen.
  20. oh no, i really know how you are feeling right now, i went through this with my eldest 2 children and ended up with 2 kids in different primary schools for about 2.5 years, i managed it though as the 2 schools are within a 5 minute walk of each other, your situation sounds much worse. on the reverse side of the letter you received yesterday there is loads of info about appeals and the address you write to, you need to get an appeal form asap as the appeal must be in by may 6th, telephone 0114 2735766 - admissions team, good luck, let us know how you get on.
  21. i didn't receive a letter, i only knew about the application deadline via nursery as they put up a notice, my little one was 4 yesterday and our applications had to be sent by mid january, i just googled the primary admissions sheffield website and applied via that, didn't even have a reference number either needless to say i've been a bit worried, however my little one got in our 1st choice even though its not the catchment school. owls6 -you get 3 choices of schools, you can put down reasons why you want the schools ie sibling at the school, catchment, walking distance etc. take a look at the primary admissions website, i'm sure it will tell you when you can apply, i know some schools in other areas let you put names down at the said school but i couldnt do that at our preferred school, had to go through the admissions people.
  22. got our result for primary admission in the post today even though i applied online, got our 1st choice so we are very pleased. the letter is post dated the 11th though...
  23. asda sells it, its near the party bags and birthday cards etc
  24. i think its the person who built the wall's 'signature', here's the other thread http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-594009.html
  25. could be one of several things i suppose, my car beeps to tell me if a door isn't shut correctly, its 4 degrees or below - risk of ice warning, seatbelt warning for driver and passenger seats, couldn't figure out why my car was beeping once and i'd put something on the front passenger seat which the car detected as an unbelted passenger, also beeps to tell me other stuff such as the oil level if its running low, light out etc... i do get a warning on the dash if i'm quick enough to look, only lasts a few seconds tho
